For sale is my 1979 Fiat 2000 (Fiat 124) Spider roadster in silver. The Fiat 124 Spider was beautifully designed by the legendary Italian designer Pininfarina and has dashing performance to match thanks to its 2 litre twin cam engine. This particular car benefits from having had its engine replaced by the more desirable Fiat 131 Mirafiori engine. The car has had 3 UK owners since being imported from sunny Florida in 1991 and has a mere 30k miles on its new engine.
This car was used all summer as a daily driver. It really is a joy to drive giving a fun, sporty ride. If the looks of the car don’t turn heads the throaty engine note certainly will. People always stop and ask me about the car.
- BODYWORK -
Full bare metal re-spray by the previous owner. The underneath of the car is solid. The bodywork is in overall good/average condition apart from the rear n/s wheel arch and the leading edge of the bonnet which are both starting to bubble. The brightwork is tarnished and the rear n/s light is cracked. The US bumpers were removed by the previous owner for aesthetic purposes. Included in the sale are 2 spare doors and 2 replacement arch liners which were recently bought from DTR (European sports car specialists). The replacement doors are in excellent condition and come with the quarter lights.
- ENGINE AND MECHANICAL -
The engine had a full service in May 2007 including new oil & oil filter, spark plugs, distributer cap, rotor arm, fan belt, anti-freeze and timing belt. A new manual choke converter kit was fitted to eradicate over fuelling and excessive idle speeds which are associated with autochokes. New rear brake pads were fitted as well as 4 new coil springs on the suspension.
- INTERIOR AND ROOF -
To be honest the interior lets the car down and needs replacing. There is no rear bench seat and there is a small split in the dashboard. The carpets have been removed and thrown away. The hood and frame are removed from the car. The frame appears in very good condition but the hood is poor and will want replacing.
- HISTORY -
There is a very good history file with the car that includes many invoices, service receipts, old MOT certificates and certificated import from Florida USA.
- SUMMARY -
In summary this is a very usable and practical (2+2) Italian sports car for not a lot of money. Given a new hood it is perfectly usable as it is but it would also make a great restoration project. I have tried to be thoroughly honest in describing the car although viewing is strongly recommended. The car is located in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire.
