One of a kind Red '67 Mercury Cougar with a Custom Mercedes Turbodiesel engine! GO GREEN and run this on bio-diesel or equivalent alternative fuel!
Owned for over a decade and completely restored and customized here in the Los Angeles area by my personal mechanic and friend, a career Professional, not some weekend hobbyist - a Mercedes Master Mechanic/diesel specialist now semi-retired and working by appointment only. He's successfully converted seven cars to diesel with three remaining in his collection. The engine in this one has just 5000 miles since a spare no expense blueprinting and balancing rebuild performed personally by the owner who intended to keep it into retirement before his wife and business partner of more than 40 years passed suddenly due to an unexpected illness.. The engine is actually smoother than any of the dozens of factory Mercedes 300SD's I've owned and driven. This is the famous elegantly simple, low maintenance and bulletproof Mercedes OM617 cast iron block/head engine with the double steel timing chain that is at the center of the SVO & WVO alternative fuel movement, an engine capable of 500,000 miles of service and more with just routine maintenance. THE ENGINE for running vegetable oil as in the W123 and W126 chassis 240D, 300D, 300TD wagons and 300SD sedan models. The climate in Los Angeles is such that this car can run veggie and mixes <i>without modification</i> but it can be converted to handle typical mountain wintertemps by adding an extra fuel filter and heater for just a few hundred US$ to a about US$950.00 if you want to operate in very very cold climates. I can arrange to have this done for you by experienced professionals here in Los Angeles before shipment if you prefer.
Car is also equipped with the rare for a OM617 turbo engine, Mercedes-Benz 4spd manual transmission (usually found on the 4 cyl. 240D's) for fantastic fuel economy, achieving 35MPG plus at 55MPH! on two 1500 miles test trips by the owner from Los Angeles to his vacation home in southern Oregon. Following these test trips he had the car painted as it shows so the engine has just 2000 additional local miles on it since rebuild so it's well broken in. Current CA registration expires Jun/'10 and clear CA title guaranteed and in hand. New 4pc. mats and correct reproduction truck liner kit with spare cover and tire iron snap bag. New factory reproduction radio antenna has been installed. Paint and upholstery in excellent condition. Complete suspension rebuild. Car runs and drives like a sports car. Left to connect up is the front headlight door vacuum actuators (everything is there incl. a spare electric vac pump and the factory schematics to be included).
