SOLD C49701 | | | Not for sale - it has been sold via a Car and Classic Free Ad | | This 1987 420 SL has been in the hands of only 2 owners in the past 20 years, having covered a very low 41,000 miles. It has a substantial service history, not only with its original fully stamped service book, but corresponding bills, it is a full and comprehensive history beyond doubt.
Having spent its life on Jersey, the car is now on the UK mainland ready for viewing. When new, the car entered into Jersey Mercedes-Benz motoring folk-lore. When, in 1987, the car arrived at Jacksons ( the Mercedes dealer on Jersey), it was immediately shipped off to the famous coach builders 'Wood and Picket' of London, where the interior was stripped out and in went a bespoke interior using Connolly leather and Wilton carpets, finished off with handmade and specially fitted wool overrugs. The interior is more associated with Rolls-Royce than Mercedes. Every internal panel is finished in leather. The end product is outstanding. The condition, 21 years on is testament to the quality and lack of use of the motor car, as it is still exceptional, showing very little use or wear.
The bodywork is also exceptional, there is absolutely no rust or corrosion at all. Near enough perfect.
The engine bay is just as it left the factory, and the manner in which the car drives shows how well the car has been maintained and with such a low mileage they are indeed supposed to drive.
The car has a 'Wood and Picket' fitted hood from new, and of course it has its original factory hardtop. This too has had the headlinig trimmed in leather.
The car has the optional factory fitted Behr air conditioning, and cruise control along with the optional rear seat, again trimmed in leather by Wood and Picket.
The MOT is until June 2009, and all paperwork is present for UK mainland registration.
All import taxes have been paid.
