VERY rare Avenger 1600 Super estate For Sale (1976)
As Avenger go this is very rare...As Avenger estates go this car is VERY rare. Reluctantly for sale is my '76 Avenger 1600 estate. A rare twin headlamp model this is the very last of the Mk1 Avengers and was registered a couple of weeks before the Mk2 was seen at the Chrysler dealers, the latest reg'd MK1 estate certainly in the club if not the country and of the 40 or so mk1 Avenger estate left on the road this is certainly one of the best.
My beloved estate has 9 months mot left on him and will very easily pass again when the time comes.
In very good condition, NOT mint but good enough to have won best Avenger estate at last years club National day.
Paint is generally original and is good, bit of touching up taken place down near the bottom of the sills and front valance, as you do! Body is very sound indeed, slight bit of filler in the lower rear corners, and bottom of one back door but NO rust and NO rot. He's had new rear arches and new front wings before I aquired him and they are excellent as are all the other arches/Valances/Panels/Doors/Sills/Tailgate.
Engine is absolutely brilliant, goes like the clappers, starts and runs fantastically, stomping oil pressure..Burns NO oil at all...all the way from Wolverhampton to Moffat in Scotland for the Moffat Rootes show and run at 70mph in 4 hours and three quarters of a tank...and then back again! Gearbox is brilliant, the brakes are superb having the big servo fitted as standard. I run him on Ford 14" alloys and 185/60 tyres. Obviously NOT standard but as anyone who know Avenger will tell you, they fairly fly around corners on rails with some modern rubber underneath them. This on handles totally amazingly and I mean AMAZINGLY. Can put the original wheels back on though. Many MANY new parts fitted, basically as this is my favourite car I have spoilt him with lots of NEW parts, just because! Interior is the rare blue interior, pretty good and totally original except for drivers seat which has a couple of tears in the seat, fixable but it never bothered me. Back seats and tailgate carpet are excellent as are the doorcards etc. Obligatory crack in the dash top by the speaker grille. Par for the course for MK1 Avenger!
COMES WITH FACTORY FITTED SUNDYM TINTED GLASS ALL ROUND which is EXTREMELY RARE INDEED. Also has the rear wash wipe and heated rear window being the later MK1.
This is a very rare, as in VERY rare car indeed, A very good example of the brilliant Avenger estate. Lots of MOT, in good condition, NOT mint but very good nonetheless, very pretty car indeed. Runs superbly, stops equally as good and goes round corners better than a load of modern cars. Spacious and practicle. Great Owners club (ASOC...Avenger & Sunbeam Owners Club), possibly one of the best clubs anywhere. Parts are still obtainable. Does over 35 to the gallon easily on a run, Brilliant to use everyday. Insurance costs me £59 quid a year fully comp with full breakdown cover on 3000 miles per year!
This is one superb car and it'll break my heart when he goes to a new and caring and very loving home, cos if I don't like you I won't be selling him to you SO it's imperative that you love Avengers.
