| Mercedes Benz 240D (W115) Manual, PAS For Sale (1975) edit C52279 | | | This is the manual version of the 240D in RHD. It has the best of the diesel engines produced by Mercedes at the time (more powerful than the 200 & 220 and more reliable than the 300). It was last fully serviced in November 2007 (by Bill Schrader in Essex) and had a new exhaust fitted during this service.
The engine has never let me down and currently has 153,877 on the clock. These engines go on forever if maintained properly. The oil pressure is good. The only thing it could do with is having the radiator re-cored (or replaced).
The paint on the car is very reasonable, although not perfect. It has a few blisters, most notably one on the bonnet and one at the rear on the lip of the boot. There is no rust in the boot, the foot wells or the bulkhead - all are sound. The body has been wax-oiled at some point. It has areas of rust on the underneath of the front doors. The tyres are just over a year old, all 4 beige steel hubcaps are present (and match) and there is also a spare in the back.
The MB-tex interior is beige and is in very good condition with no wear or tears. The carpets are reasonably clean but for a few marks. The roof liner is ok but has a tear at the back near side pillar. It also has a new Sony face-off stereo fitted and also a grade 2 immobiliser.
The car has power steering and all the electrics work perfectly; lights, interior lights, boot light, rear window de-mister, wipers, washer jets, heater blower fan etc. The vacuum central locking also works on all 4 doors. It comes with its original 1975 Mercedes issue fire extinguisher (unused), Mercedes tool kit & roll and Mercedes first aid kit.
As for its history, there are a number of MOTs going back to the eighties (though not all of them), various receipts for work undertaken, its original sales brochures, booklets, plastic wallet and also the original Mercedes identification card.
In summary this is a very usable classic. It costs £110 a year to insure (it is garaged) and can do 30-35 mpg. The car is currently in Southampton.
Tax and MOT have now run out. Will put 12 months MOT on for buyer.
