This car is a genuine TR8 (not a converted TR7) and one of only 700 built at Canley to USA-specification in left-hand drive configuration before being professionally converted to right-hand drive. This was done by TRGB in 1992 (at 40,000 miles) at a cost of £1,300, since when the car has benefited from considerable further expenditure.
The car is absolutely immaculate and undoubtedly one of the best right-hand drive TR8s around, ‘MBC 324V’ has covered a mere 57,000 miles from new is very close to concours condition. The car looks superb, while the wheels - genuine factory alloys - have been refurbished and have excellent tyres on them.
The unleaded-compatible engine was rebuilt by a retired engineer under 5,000 miles ago (the bores still showed the original honing marks at that time) receiving new piston rings, timing chain, mounts and bearings throughout. The engine bay is well detailed, with genuine labels where they should be, and a pleasure to behold. Other parts renewed include the fuel pump, filters, cables, radiator surrounds, starter motor and prop shaft, SU carbs and brake/clutch master cylinders have all been overhauled.
The brakes and suspension have likewise been fully refurbished, benefiting from new shock absorbers, brake discs, pads, shoes, cylinders and copper pipes, while a new knuckle was fitted to the steering recently. Window glass is Sundym and the car has a full, twin-pipe, stainless-steel, performance exhaust system and roll-over bar. Other new parts include the door guides, fog lamps, halogen headlights, side and indicator lights. The immaculate original interior is upholstered in blue check with black door cards and carpets. The hood is in fine order too and the car possesses a correct hood cover, which is stowed in the boot together with a fire extinguisher.
‘MBC 324V’ comes with its original handbook and stamped Triumph ‘Passport to Service’ booklet, BMI Heritage Certificate, all MoTs since returning to the UK and a box file containing virtually every bill and service docket from new. Probably the finest genuine TR8 currently available.
