Lovely Original 1961 Singer Gazelle Convertible SOLD

Car re-listed due to an unfortunate time waster. Consequently I have now reduced the asking price by £1000. 00 from £8650. 00 to just £7650. 00 and I am prepared to accept a close sensible offer to a genuine buyer or enthusiast. This is now a real bargain for someone who wants to own a genuine, straight and unmolested Gazelle Convertible. Even if you found another one for sale, the chances are that the price would cost thousands of pounds more, probably in excess of £10, 000. This car has just been featured in a 6-page Rootes Group Article in the September issue of Classic Car Mart Magazine, a copy of which will stay with the car for provenance and display purposes at Car Shows.

First registered in September 1961, this lovely period 60’s Convertible looks great and is real fun to drive. It is finished in one of the most popular and attractive paintwork colour schemes for this model, which is powder blue with a moonstone white side flash and contrasting blue interior & blue hood.

The car has survived very well and is mainly original in condition. The 1600cc engine, 4-speed floor change gearbox, most of the paintwork, chrome, hood, both full & part tonneau covers, interior & trim, are all original. Consequently the car, although in very good condition, is not perfect and may possibly require a few cosmetic items of attention if preferred by a new owner. However it still looks stunning and is ready to drive and enjoy for the rest of the Summer. The Registration Number is also original and the vehicle was first registered in Birmingham in the West Midlands, Coventry being the town where Singer cars were manufactured by the Rootes Group. The Gazelle was always promoted as the more upmarket & luxurious model of the similar but basic Hillman Minx.

I have owned the car for over 12 years and it has always been regularly serviced and well maintained. It has MOT & Tax valid until May 2015. I have a comprehensive history file of old MOT certificates, tax discs, invoices & receipts for thousands of pounds spent. There is a lovely collection of period original Singer Gazelle Convertible brochures, colour chart, price list and age related memorabilia, all of which will be given to the new owner to display with the car at classic shows.

The car also has some period accessories fitted, such as whitewall tyres, twin fog & spot lights, a 1960s’ radio, seat belts, wing mirrors, mud flaps & chrome exhaust trim. This rare car is well known to the Singer Owners’ Club and is recorded on the Gazelle Convertible Register and I believe is one of only 29 known surviving examples in the world. My car is the Series IIIC model, of which there are apparently only 2 remaining in the UK. Most spare parts and all service items are readily available through contacts in the club who are also very happy to offer help & advice.

In conclusion, this beautiful British 1960’s 4-seater looks great, drives very well and turns heads wherever it’s driven. I can easily send more photos and answer any further questions by email or phone, daytime or early evening. You are also most welcome to come and inspect the car and enjoy a test drive. I live in North Norfolk and I work from home, so most days & times for a visit should be possible by mutual arrangement. This really is a genuine and reluctant sale of a rare surviving classic car of the Singer marque and I sincerely hope that the new owner will continue to look after it but most of all, enjoy owning it.
