1967 MK 1 MGB Roadster £8000 ono SOLD
Now offered with MOT until 30th July 2015
I bought the car in May 2007 from the art editor of a well known classic car magazine, she had been run as one of their feature cars from December 2003 until April 2007 and is unique in having a published history of the work that has been done.
Like me, they wanted a MK 1 with the five bearing engine, the heritage certificate confirms that VNO was built over the period 22nd to 24th May 1967 . The previous owner was a doctor in Kent who had owned the car for 21 years. He paid for regular maintenance and in particular a full restoration in 1986/ 7. I have receipts from his ownership for £10, 000 plus a full history file, including all MOT certificates and tax discs.
During Martins ownership in excess of another £10, 000 was spent. Biggest jobs being engine rebuild by Beech Hill garage ( with Kent 717 cam, vernier timing gear, new piston, rings and bearings) and a full gearbox and overdrive rebuild by Hardy Engineering. This is mated to a cylinder head built by James Goldstraw of Grace Engine Developments, which, although standard valve sizes, has hardened valve seats, bronze bulleted valve guides, double cotter springs and is ported and polished. In terms of ‘stages’ it is a stage 2. 5 and makes the engine pretty rapid. At this time a new prop shaft, clutch and alternator were also fitted. The original fan was removed and a Kenlowe fan fitted, which is thermostatically controlled with the option of and override switch.
It also has a Falcon stainless LCB manifold and sports exhaust, The suspension was rebuilt all round with Spax on the rear. New wire wheels and hubs were fitted by Beech Hill Garage in 2004.
Every effort has been made to keep the interior looking as original as possible, a new black crackle finish dash with all period correct switches has been fitted. Gauges have been overhauled by Speedy Cables and there is an original working speaker and centre console fitted. The seats have been re-trimmed in leather to period correct specification. New inertia reel seatbelts have been fitted.
Recent new boot floor, petrol tank, back panel and bottom half rear wings fitted.
This car is not concours, but it is still an outstanding drive!
Tax and MOT until July 2015. Two new batteries fitted at MOT.
I do not want to sell this car but Arthritis and bad hips are making it very difficult for me to get in and out so must go!
