Oldsmobile For Sale (1939)
RARE RARE RARE
Hi car collectors and enthusiests,
I have one of the rarest Oldsmobiles ever
Produced here in South Australia,
It’s a 1939 Series 60 Business Roadster the only one left of 5 produced.
In the early 1900’s General Motors Holden Australia use to assemble all G.M cars, Cheverolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick,
La Salle and Cadillac, the front panels and chassis of the vehicles were sent to Australia, then Holdens produced the bodies
and trim and assembled the complete vehicle.
Oldsmobile produced a roadster here in 1934 and 1935, none in 1936, 1937 and 1938.
In 1939 they produced only 33 roadsters, 23 were eight cylinder models (for export only) and ten series 60 models
(five sports roadsters with dicky seat) and five business roadsters with large boot lid
My car is the only remaining business roadster out of the five produced and it’s body number 2.
This car is so rare even in this country, that it doesn’t even appear in the original sales brochure of which I have a copy.
I even have a photocopy of some pages of a diary that a young guy was keeping back in 1939 and he actually mentions these
unusual oldsmobile roadsters coming down the production line, and that they are only making ten of them as a trial,
to see how they go because there was already a 1939 Chevrolet roadster being made and these ones were going to cost an
Extra 80 pounds ($160) which was a lot of money in those days.
I believe Holdens would have produced more of these vehicles except War broke out in 1939 and they went into war production.
Anyway, I have decided to put this car on the market for sale and I am open to offers over
$50,000
The car is fully restored except for the soft top, I have not done that because it has been on display in the Birdwood Motor Museum for the last four years. The car does not have the hood, but I do have the bows.
As you can see by the photo this is a truly stunning vehicle and the only one of its type like it in the world.
