| 'Tommy' Triumph: Spitfire 1500 needs a new home! SOLD (1977) C55624 | | | Not for sale - it has been sold via a Car and Classic Free Ad | | This Spitfire was restored around 1996, when it had its chassis painted and undersealed, it’s engine reconditioned, new sills floorpans and front wings fitted, followed by an engine and interior out respray. The bodywork is sound, with solid sills and wheel arches, the paintwork is very good apart from a few small blemishes which have since appeared over the years, and the chassis is solid with no structural rust that I’m aware of. The wire wheels are in generally good condition although there is some corrosion on the spokes, and there are 58000 miles on the clock.
Since its restoration it has done very few miles, and been kept in a dry garage by its subsequent owners and myself. New carpets and door cards were fitted, and a new canvas hood which I’ve water proofed with Renovo. Since I bought the car four years ago I’ve also fitted a new differential unit, clutch slave cylinder, battery, heat shield and ‘pancake’ filters, and refurbished the interior. I’ve recovered the dashboard, polished all the wood and chrome, fitted a new hood seal, inertia reel seatbelts and a Mountney sport steering wheel, so the interior is very nice.
There are some spares which come with the car if desired, including all the parts required for an electric cooling fan conversion, which I’ve not had time to finish yet. There is a shoebox full of receipts and photos taken during the restoration, and the car will be sold with new tax and new MOT. The car is not perfect or concourse, but it is in very good condition for a 31 year old car, and it's only for sale as I need to free up my garage for another project.
It’s a solid, reliable, lovely little car which has passed every MOT since I’ve owned it, and it will reward whoever buys it with a lot fun on a low budget. An ideal first classic car!
