| SS Cars Jaguar 100 Roadster For Sale (1938) edit C56125 | | | 1938/9 SS Cars 3,5ltr Roadster with British Racing Green body and Light Green Leather interior:
As the car stands she is in need of work to the braking system, otherwise she runs well. The thought was to upgrade the brakes to hydraulics - but the new owner may prefer to have the correct rod system so this work has not been done.
This SS Roadster is using a fibre-glass body which was “moulded” from an original car; one would be hard pressed to tell this by standing next to the car.
All the original fittings, switch-gear, steering-wheel, instrumentation, wheels, spare-wheel hub-carrier, door latches, seating, carpeting, etc., etc. are from a genuine original SS Roadster.
The fibre-glass buck-mouldings are fully complete and available as part of the purchase if required. All of these "mouldings" were taken off another SS Roadster that was subsequently sold from South Africa to a Museum in Germany - so is per an original vehicle.
Coming with the vehicle is an aluminium body virtually completed with Ash wood frames barring the door outer-skins and front wings (which are obtainable ex-UK in steel). This body can be completed locally and be thoroughly finished complete with the transfer of parts as required from the existing car if the buyer so wishes. It is estimated that to do so would take between 12-18 months at a fixed quote cost of ZAR500,000 (approx. GBP 34,000). This would give the owner a totally restored car in aluminium rather than steel bodied.
The engine currently fitted is a 3,5ltr (No.: S2326) but there is also a complete SS 2,5ltr engine (No.: L959E) plus various spare parts including a new set of pistons and rings for the 2,5ltr.
The present running gear of the car is a chassis, the number of which cannot be clearly read - but think it came from a SS Saloon donor - which has the same wheelbase.
There is an additional spare chassis number L295 (believed to be AEC) of the 1936/7 era but is the same size as that of the SS due to the commonality of manufacture by the STANDARD CHASSIS COMPANY during this period for various motorcars.
The spares that come with the deal for the Roadster include a new set of Chrome wire wheels, another front stub axle, two complete sets of headlights and side lights, several original but in need of refurbishment electrical instruments, etc.
There are 53 detailed HIGH RESOLUTION photographs with a file size of 180Mb available on request.
