Reluctant sale of my 1983 Capri 2.8i in Diamond White. Car has done 91k miles, MOT till August 14 2009 and is SORN'd. Car has been in my possession for 18 years and has done 28k miles in that time. It has been garaged for the last 10 years and hasn’t been driven in the rain during that period. It has a set of 5 good RS alloys (with all locking covers and locking nuts) and good tyres but it is not a Special and hence no LSD. It currently has a Janspeed mild steel system and manifold. It is also fitted with a towbar suitable for small trailers, though I have never used it. It runs using Castrol Valvemaster Plus fuel additive and has a Piranha alarm system.

The car has been welded to a high standard in the usual places; one strut top mount, all four footwells and rear chassis rails. The welding has been Hammerited and undersealed, as has much of the underside. It also has a Smith and Deakin fibreglass bonnet with interior frame (£180) after the original fell apart and the price of a steel one was then out of reach to me. This is still in the white gel coat as it is a good match to the rest of the car as it is.

Interior is very good, with only one small cigarette burn on the rear seat from before I owned it. Car has not been smoked in, in my ownership. Seats are excellent, bolsters unworn though the drivers side lever to pull the back of the seat forward is broken, although the lever is still usable. Dash is slightly faded on top but uncracked, and the rear parcel shelf is complete and in good condition. The heater motor, as is usual, packed up years ago. It has a set of factory mats in the front and rear.

The car has had a lot of work done to it since I have owned it, all done (except welding as above) to a very high standard by an ex-Ford engineer and former RAF Technician (thanks Dad). I have all the MOT’s since 1989 and about 90% of the bills (a few from the mid-nineties seem to be missing). Most of this work has been done in the last 10 to 15 thousand miles;

· Recon gearbox
· New Clutch
· New windscreen
· Recon power steering rack
· New leaf springs, U bolts and bushes
· New front suspension bushes
· New discs
· Rebuilt calipers
· New rear wheel cylinders and linings
· Three new headlights
· Engine - New water pump, coil, starter solenoid and fuel filter. Oil and filter changed every thousand miles or so
· New Bosch fuel pump
· Recored radiator with system flush
· New differential cover plate and oil
· New rear bumper
· Plugs, air filter and valve clearances all recently done
· New front right TCA
· Recent Battery
· New throttle cable and a spare new cable in the boot
· New flasher unit

The bodywork is structurally sound but has some surface corrosion in the following places;
- the front of both wings
- bottom of the left door
- behind the sliding roof aperture
- behind both rear wheels
- front valance

I would summarise this car as being in mechanically very good condition, structurally very good and could be used as is, or could benefit from a small amount of cosmetic tidying to be really good. If I’m being critical I would suggest the following
might be borne in mind by a potential buyer;
- As above, it’s useable cosmetically as is but some might want to improve
- Rear struts do hold the tailgate but could do with replacing at some point
- Heater motor doesn’t work
- Slight axle whine at speed (but they all do that and tend to go on forever)
- Steering wheel has slight damage on rear of rim from the security device
- No stereo, though all the standard speakers and wiring is there. Electric aerial replaced with manual

Its good points are that it is mechanically excellent, structurally sound and has had a long list of work completed to a high standard as listed previously.

I’m asking £1500 for the car and it is available to view near central Birmingham almost anytime including weekdays. Any questions or other photos required, then please ask. Photos are available here;

Could be interested in a swap for a motorbike of equivalent value.
