| STUNNING 250 SL PAGODA AUTOMATIC 4 OWNERS For Sale (1968) edit C61943 | | | Rare Mercedes Pagoda 250 SL, Automatic. One of the last 250’s ever made (January 1968). Genuine 109,000 miles and engine rebuilt less than 10,000 miles ago at a cost of £2720 with receipt to prove. Four owners, metallic gold with black interior, it attracts much attention and turns heads wherever it goes. This is one classic car that really can be enjoyed on a daily basis.
Soft top plus exceedingly rare hard top which has a factory fitted winding sunroof. A stunning car and an absolute joy to drive. It still feels ‘tight’ just like a new car. Gearbox is faultless with swift, smooth gear changes and kick down works perfectly.
Under the bonnet everything is clean and as it should be with many original detailing that other SL owners have lamented are missing on their cars. Please note the padding around the bulkhead; this is normally tatty but you’ll see this is in pristine condition. In fact, this car even comes with its ORIGINAL and complete Mercedes Benz tool kit!
The steering is perfect and precise. Braking system is superb even under heavy braking with NO nasty surprises such as veering to left or right.
The underside is 100% solid with no rust or rot. There are no rust bubbles anywhere and the gold coachwork is delightful. It is, in fact, a very, very straight car. The chrome is perfect too.
The exhaust system is excellent and good for many, many more years. All tyres are excellent inc spare.
The interior is beautifully crisp with excellent carpets which have had over-mats from new. There is a rear seat suitable for children or one adult sitting sideways. A period push button radio is fitted and works perfectly; even the clock works fine!
The boot is super clean with original carpet.
This car has been garaged and cherished which will be evident upon viewing.
The 250 is the rarest of all the SL’s as they were only made for 13 months and only 1388 were RHD. The 250 SL has the far superior seven main bearing engine as opposed to four in the 230 SL. The 250 also has rear disc brakes and a stiffer suspension which gives a sportier feel. It’s also more economical than a 280 SL.
Given that the 250 is the rarest; it’s regarded as undervalued and definitely the one to go for with prices increasing even in these current financial times.
There is a history file with loads of previous MOTs, parts catalogues, workshop manual etc included.
The new purchaser will be absolutely thrilled with this fabulous car which is MOT’d to June 2009 and taxed to May 2009 (free tax anyway) and ready to drive away with nothing requiring attention. BTW, the rare hardtop alone is worth around £2000 as another one with factory sunroof would be impossible to find.
Cars in this condition rarely come on to the market and is definitely worth £27,500 … but first offer of £24,995 secures.
