| VW 13 window de-lux split screen camper (LHD) For Sale (1963) edit C67366 | | | 1963 Volkswagen 13 window de-lux Split Screen Camper (LHD)
This is a truly stunning split screen camper that drives as good as it looks.
The bus was imported from New Mexico in 1999 where it had spent 20 years in the desert (being slowly sandblasted!) The initial restoration was done by Volkshaven but then completed by Andy Barnes (a Jaguar Heritage professional restorer). Andy Barnes hobby is VW's and took on this project in his spare time; Andy is one of these guys that has impeccable attention to detail. For example he spent 4 weeks on hanging the doors as he wanted the gap all the way around them to be completely perfect. He completed the body work, paintwork, interior cabinets and trim all by himself to an exceptional standard. The color is Porsche ‘Kelly Green’ over VW ‘Beige Grey’.
The engine has been upgraded from its original 1500cc to 1835cc, this ensures the reliability whilst giving it a bit more power for getting up those hills.
The overall condition of the camper is exceptional; it has been featured in several magazines over the past couple of years. It is in show condition and we have only ever entered it into one competition (we're not really into that sort of thing) and it won best in show!! It appears in 'June' of the Camper & Commercial 2009 calendar. It is also photographed in a few VW books.
I'm being completely honest here when I tell you that you will struggle to find a better split screen camper. It turns heads wherever you go and true VW enthusiast will struggle to pick fault. It's completely straight (probably straighter now than the day it left the factory in 1963)
We spent a long long time trying to find a really good camper and since buying this one in 2004 I can honestly say I have never seen one as good. If I entered this into competitions I would have a house full of trophies. We bought it to enjoy not to show it.
This is a VERY reluctant sale and I really wish I could keep her; unfortunately expanding family means house extension!! It is without doubt the best car I have ever owned…..
I’ll miss the grin it puts on my face every time I open my garage door.
I’ll miss accelerating onto motorways, under tunnels and through the countryside to the distinctive sound of 1835cc engine.
And I’ll miss sitting in traffic, window open, in the sunshine, admiring its reflection in shop windows.
I’ll miss cleaning it for more times than anyone should really admit until it looked as good as the day it left VW back in 1963.
I’ll miss the amazed look on the faces of all those Chavs from my rear view mirror as they attempt to race me at the lights.
I’ll miss those looks of admiration and comments from random strangers whenever I get out of the bus.
Hopefully I’ll be lucky enough to experience it all again some day but for now Ill have to rely on those wonderful memories.
Remember this is a classic car and will hold its value provided it is looked after. Why waste your money a new car that will be worth half its value in 5 years time when you can own a true classic that won’t depreciate.
If you’ve done your research you’ll know that early VW’s had a tendency to rust quite a lot which is why you will find cheaper VWs’s on the market. This is a solid rust free car so don’t be fooled by cheaper alternatives!
The car is valued at £35k plus but I’m looking for a quick sale so I have priced the car accordingly. First to see it will definitely buy it.
£28,995 (ovno)
