| BMW R 100 RS ***Rare and in Tip Top Condition*** For Sale (1978) edit C69229 | | | One of 2 Fully Rebuilt R 100 RS's for sale................ Both have Excellent fairings for high-speed touring.........
................£4500 and £5000 respectively................
You find me one as good as this and I'll pay you 5 Grand for it......but I want to see the receipts just the same as you can see them for this one!!!.........................
They are just not around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...........................................................
A well-sorted R100RS will show you 135mph, and hold over 100 all day, on the Autobahn of course......................
I have never been over 70mph so don't know what it feels like! LOL!!.................................................
Had to say that or no doubt some freak will say I am trying to entice people break the law!.............................
As if I would do a thing like that!.........................
There was no official R80RS,although there are a few 80's about with fairings on. The 800 can't take the sustained speed the RS fairing allows. The RS Fairing, developed in a wind tunnel actually creates downforce and helps hold the bike to the ground so it doesn't go light at the front end when travelling at speed. Now not a lot of people know that!.......................................................
It's an Early 1978 BMW R 100 RS for Sale in Tip Top Condition ................................................(2nd year of the production)and having been Fully Reconditioned and I mean FULLY RECONDITIONED IT'S GOOD ENOUGH TO TAKE PRIDE OF PLACE IN YOUR GARAGE and CLEAN ENOUGH TO BRING INTO THE HOUSE..............................
When the wife's out that is!................................
The Frame repainted (powder coated in black) and the Gold paintwork on the Fairing has also be resprayed to a very HIGH Standard (it's almost as new) In fact with todays paints it's probably better than NEW........................
Brand New Stainless Front Pipes fittings as well............
New head race bearings have been fitted as well as NEW swing arm Bushes and NEW wheel bearings....................
The engine has been FULLY STRIPPED, checked, double checked with a vernier and rebuilt with NEW PISTON RINGS,...........( didn't really need them as the bores were perfect but it was stripped down at that piont so for what it cost no point in skimping)..........................................
............................................................
NEW VALVE GUIDES,NEW VALVES, and an UNLEADED CYLINDER HEAD CONVERSION so it will now Run quite happily on Unleaded Fuel........................................................
The clutch is new and was replaced when the engine was rebuilt, (silly not to!)...................................
The gearbox has been stripped fully inspected and rebuilt with new bearings and seals all round so no problems there..
The only thing Bike is lacking is a NEW Home and a NEW Owner.!............COULD that be YOU!.......................
It's the one to have having the heavier Flywheel and the Duplex Timing Chain.........................................
They just go on for ever and this is the 70HP model unlike the later Bikes which were detuned to 60HP..................
Having riden both I can say that YES you will notice the difference with the extra 10HP..............................
There is no substitute for CUBE'S as the Americans would say!.................................................
Production of this model was started in 1976 with spoked wheels and moved over to Alloys in '78 and Ended pproduction 1984...........................................
They don't come around very often in this condition.........
Basically you are getting a NEW 30 Year Old BMW R100RS.....
This bike has probably had £5000 spent on it and it has all been done Professionally so nothing has been overlooked.....
Sympathetically upgraded brakes and so you stop quicker.....
Engine and frame numbers match so nothing to worry about there it's original and genuine so not made out of bits of this and bits of that...................................... Would you spend 5 grand on making a bitza................
I don't think so!................Just checked the bills and there has been over 7 grand spent on this bike.........
You'll not find a better one.
everythings been done on this machine / engine / gearbox / bevel gear / drive unit output spline etc / forks/ yokes/ brakes / fairing resprayed / frame repainted /too much to list........................................................
It's had the gearbox rebuilt by a specialist for so you can forget for another 100,000 miles.
Same with the Bevel Box specialist replaced so again should last for another 100,000 miles............................. Everything is a pleasure to work on and rewarding to do... Mechanical experience and a decent workshop is all you need. In other words, in the time it takes your mates to go through 2 or 3 Sportsbikes, you may have had to replace a tricky gearbox oil seal which if you don't do the job yourself could cost you £200................................
With regular preventative maintenance, quality replacement parts, and occasional specialist work - you could run a Boxer for 20 years. On that timescale even expensive parts become cheap...............................................
As soon as you get your bike, and every year there after, touch every nut and bolt you can see with a drop of oil...(3 in one will do)......................................... By doing this could easily have a bike for 20 years that has never been apart. In 5 years time, if you do have to remove something, you will be glad you put those drops of oil on it..................................................
Be religious about oil changes. Every year, drop all oils and refill with newOil..................................... Oils should come out clean, and not be black. One of the things to look for is metal filings or swarf if any comes out in the oil That is an early indication of failure. Do not forget the driveshaft tube, 100cc of fresh oil in there every year is cheaper than a new shaft. Inspect the rubber boot at the front of the driveshaft - replace if hardened or perished. DO NOT OVERTIGTEN oil drain plugs, they are easy to strip...............................................
Just simple maintenance and it will last longer than you!!
Well in my case anyway!.....................................
