| Ford Mondeo LX TD 1.8 Estate | Spares or Repair For Sale (1993) edit C69899 | | | This Mondeo Estate is in very good condition for the year, but since recently passing its MOT, has developed a diesel pump leak. It drives very well, but could be a danger to other road users especially bikers and cyclists. I have not used the car since the problem was confirmed.
The leak is quite slight, but we all know how a few drops of diesel can turn a wet road into an ice rink. I feel it is acceptable to drive the car to a place where it can be repaired, (preferably on a dry day) but irresponsible (and illegal) to use it on the road till the problem has been fixed.
Total cost of repair at an independent garage has been estimated at £200-300. It requires a new seal but I have been advised it could be worth replacing the entire pump (s/h for around £70). It would be wise to renew the cam belt at the same time of course. With this work done the car should be good for many thousands more miles. If you do the work yourself it could cost less than £100.
Apart from this the car has no major issues although the MOT Advisory Note mentions that radiator, tracking & play in steering box, may need attention in the future.
It has an MOT to Oct 2009, and Road Tax to May 2009. I bought the car in 2004 and it has only done 12,000 miles since then. I have the previous service history and recent MOT documentation which is fairly comprehensive. It has 2 previous owners.
Mileage is 87K. It has been my personal car & not used for business or heavy loads, and has been 100% reliable, never broken down or failed to start. Bodywork is in excellent condition, with no obvious rust, just a couple of minor dents and scratches. There are a couple of chips in the windscreen.
It is fitted with a tow bar but I've never used it. It has Ford alloys (from a higher spec Mondeo) fitted by the previous owner which seem to improve the road holding over the standard model and match the car well. The paintwork is still very good apart from a few blemishes. These should polish out, I've never got round to doing that job.
The front tyres have done around 3,000 miles and rears are still fine. The central locking and electric windows work on all doors, and it has double locking with immobiliser. A new clutch was fitted at 79k, and alternator at 86k. Headlamp lenses were replaced at 77k. I have receipts for minor MOT repair work such as wishbones & brake pipe replacement.
The car drives very well; engine, gearbox, steering, brakes are all sound. I would say the interior is above average and clean. There is a cigarette burn in the back seat (previous owner) and the carpet in the load space has started to come up in one corner.
Viewing is welcome but test drives will have to be around the block I'm afraid, for obvious reasons.
