| Citroen DS-21 Familial Project Car, Parts For Sale (1971) edit C70658 | | | 1971 or 1972 Citroen Familial station wagon, project car. Manual transmission and factory air conditioning.
This car is actually the product of two: I took all of the body and mechanical parts off a wagon that had a badly rusted frame, and purchased a frame that was practically perfect. My original intention was to build a diesel-electric hybrid so I could be green and continue to use my favorite car in spite of impending $5/gallon gas prices. Life, however, got in the way and I have to give up the project. Maybe someday....
The frame has almost no rust on it, having been a Southern California car. The engine is still in it and needs to be rebuilt as it has not been turned over in some (many?) years and is stuck. The spare engine, with Citromatic equipment and transmission still installed, is also stuck. Because the Citromatic equipment is there it could be converted from a manual to a Citromatic without much trouble, as I kept the dashboard Citromatic pieces also.
The body parts are very straight in general. The hood has a minor ding at the very nose, and one fender has a bit of a wrinkle but it would pop out pretty cleanly. It's all very dirty, of course, but the paint under the dirt is still protecting the metal. Very little cosmetic work would be required to put it in perfect condition. All the upholstery needs refurbishing.
The pictures show the body parts from the disassembled frame mounted loosely on the good frame. The seats are sitting in place but are not perfectly positioned b/c the mounting hardware from the original seats are holding them out of position. The rust in the rear well under the jump seats is not bad, though it's not completely superficial either.
I have all the needed parts and then some to reassemble the car, as I completely stripped the bad-frame car of everything but the sheet metal chassis, and the good frame still had the engine and transmission. There are, therefore, two engines, two transmissions, and two of a number of other things such as jump seats. In addition there are bumpers, windshield and all glass, dashboard, cosmetic parts, extra tires/wheels, all A/C parts, extra factory muffler and exhaust pipes, spare mechanical parts, custom Citroen receiver hitch, extra front chassis clip, etc. etc. All the nuts and bolts that held the disassembled frame and parts together are saved in bins in the car. If there is anything missing it is minor and incidental.
I haven't found the title, though I may have it and, even if I can't find it, may be able to get a new title from the guy I bought the good frame from (he lives not too far away). I'm quite certain that the car with the VIN (the good frame) is no longer on the books of the DMV. I'm willing to work with the buyer to create a good title if s/he wishes to put it back on the road (as opposed to using it for parts). I also don't know the exact mileage.
Obviously the purchaser will have to have the vehicle carried away by a carrier who can pull it up onto the truck. It does, however, roll easily, as the tires are all holding air. (It is not resting at the bottom of its suspension because there are small blocks inserted in between the swing arm and the rubber stops.) Before sending it on its way I would wrap it securely with the packaging plastic used to hold products on shipping pallets. I will work with the buyer and his/her shipper to assemble/load the car, but all arrangements will have to be made by the buyer. If the buyer is in Southern California I could deliver it on a tow dolly for a reasonable fee.
I'm marketing the car via other means also, so sale here is subject to early termination if I sell it elsewhere first.
It'll be a bit sad to see the old girl go, but perhaps you'll give her a good home.
