1935 Mercedes 200 for sale For SaleThe Mercedes 200 (W21) was in production from 1933 to 1936, featuring a 2 litre straight 6 engine, all round independent suspension and hydraulic brakes. Available in long (3,050mm) and short (2,700mm) wheelbases, this was a “mid-size luxury car”.
This is an original right-hand drive, long wheelbase car, it left the factory on 20th August 1935 and was shipped to South Africa where it was first put on the road in 1937. I bought the car in Durban in 2003 and shipped it to the UK and am only the third registered owner from new. Some bodywork restoration had been undertaken in South Africa and the car had been reupholstered in leathercloth. In the UK, I undertook a full mechanical rebuild and a partial respray and put the car back on the road in 2006. Some small cosmetic work is still needed, e.g. interior woodwork. I have bills for up to £45,000 for work carried out.
The car remains very original although I have added a new electric overdrive unit to improve cruising on modern roads although this could be easily removed and the car reinstated as original. It is an excellent runner in regular use and has made a tour of France. It has been the subject of articles in the May 2008 edition of Mercedes Enthusiast and May 2014 edition of Classic & Sports Car magazines.
The car comes with an original English language handbook and original South African documentation. It is located in West Sussex, 8 miles from Goodwood.
