Originally supplied by Priory Cars BMW, Newcastle, this E46 is in my opinion, and also that of many others, is regarded as the last "proper" BMW 3-Series, before the model went all complicated and ugly too. It's also probably the best handling too, with its silky smooth drive train and extremely well balanced rear wheel drive chassis layout, being powered by the later brilliant N46 2.0 Litre "Valvetronic" engine, which although extremely torquey and powerful, returns superb fuel economy . In superb condition both mechanically and bodily, both on top and underneath, it's finished in striking Flamenco red, which I have to say is a gorgeous colour, with a full grey leather interior, which gives the car an air of real quality. This is a real peach of a car, and one I've used myself for a while too. Although it's a very practical and extremely well thought out car, it really is great fun to drive, something I think is lacking from modern BMW's, and modern cars in general for that matter.
It's also a very high specification model too, a specification that includes multiple airbags, multi-function steering wheel, electric windows, electric opening rear side windows (very cool), cruise, climate with ice cold air-con, PDC, OBC, illuminating vanity mirrors, alloy wheels, and the most ingenious parcel shelf I've ever seen. It also has a tow bar too, which I normally don't like as everybody wrongly assumes it's pulled a touring caravan around Europe every year, however this one has only been used to tow a small garden trailer, and I've found it's a very handy addition, ideal for attaching a tow bar mounted bike rack to, which are far more secure than those hideous "strap on" racks.
This is also a rare, totally standard example, and had just two owners, the last a mature gentleman since 2009. It's covered a below average 109,100 miles and has been correctly maintained throughout its life, and with comes with a full service history containing 15 stamps in the service booklet. In the time I've had this car in my possession, I've had the vacuum pump oil seals replaced to cure a small (and common) oil leak, replaced both rear springs, replaced two rear suspension drop links, replaced a couple of brake pipes, had the tracking done, given the car a small service and had it MOT'd, which it passed without a single advisory.
Will it be a future classic?, who knows, but it has all the right attributes. However, notwithstanding that, it's a great driver's car, with a brilliant engine and chassis all for the price of a couple of major main dealer services of a new vehicle.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected, and I work very hard to ensure that when these cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such, in my 11th year of doing this, I have many repeat customers and a steady stream new customers coming along that have been recommended via word of mouth…this is the ultimate accolade for anyone in business.
