When i purchased the vehicle I was told it was restored in the early 80's in Scotland. It was then sold to a tyre shop in Manchester for use as a window display where it remained until the early 90's. Then it came into my possession.

As you can see from the pictures it was last Taxed and on the road 12 years ago, it has had one MOT since but I did not bother to tax it and so it didn't make the road. The V5 was changed to the latest version when it came into force. As it was last Taxed pre SORN I do not have to make the annual tax/sorn declaration.

As far as i am aware it just needs to be recommissioned & a new battery fitted. It should then be a runner. The only fault I am aware of is the Dynamo does not appear to be charging but this is not much of a problem as the ignition is powered from the magneto. The vehicle has been stored in my garage all the time it has been in my care.

1928 Austin Seven - Mulliner Fabric Saloon

Manufacturer
Mulliners Ltd, Bordesley Green Road, Birmingham

Coachwork
The bodywork was produced by Mulliners under the Weymann patents. It is fitted with the production Austin four piece bonnet, bulkhead and floor pressing. An ash frame was constructed and fabric was then utilised to cover this framework, with wadding underneath and finally dummy 'landeau irons' are fitted on the rear quarters. A split windscreen is fitted which is forward opening. The spare wheel is mounted on a production Austin fitting on the rear of the car to which the number plate is attached. Circular forward facing scuttle mounted ventilators, operated from inside the car, provide adequate interior fresh air to both the driver and passenger. The full height doors are mounted on three front hinges and are rear opening, with wind up window's. The rear side windows are split with the forward glass fixed and the rear section sliding forward to provide adequate rear interior ventilation.

Trim

The body is covered in rexine with the bonnet in matching paint. The rest of the bodywork is painted black with the exception of the wheels which are the optional factory painted white wheels. Upholstery is moquette with a fabric headlining and rubber mats.

Plating

Nickel plated window surround, door handles, landau irons, wlndow catches, oil button, ignition and throttle levers, door pulls and scuttle ventilators.

Instrumentation

Switch panel Lucas type SM3, Smiths PA speedometer, oil button and horn.

Electrical

Dynamo CAV type DFL, cutout Lucas type CFI, 6v battery, ML magneto , scuitle mounted headlights and rear tail lights.

Mechanicals

Standard Austin 7

at H&H auction last June one fetched £9,900 but I do not expect to get near that, just be sensible & fair. In excess of 50% would not be unreasonable in my opinion.

For the purist the Mulliner Register ONLY HAS 6 EARLY MODELS LIKE THIS so this is your chance to own a scarce model for which mechanical spares are relatively easy to obtain. As a point of interest the register shows a first registration date of 31 December 1927 but the log book shows 24 March 1928.
