I bought this car in June 2015 from the ex. spares secretary of the Gilbern Owners Club, who had owned the car for a number of years and had collected a huge amount of new parts to renovate the car, which was in a very sorry state, as it had been in a field for 30 + years under a tarpaulin!!!
The car had already had a body off, complete chassis rebuild and the underside of the body had been re-gel coated and seam sealed before being put back on the car. The exterior of the car was in a very poor state and took in excess of 250 hrs. of labour to put right!
The car has had a full and complete ground up restoration, everything is either new or reconditioned to correct standards. All running gear/mechanicals are MGB, so parts are readily available from a number of sources. The suspension has been improved by fitting equal length 4 link trailing arms and a full length panhard rod, which is rose jointed, AVO coilover suspension has been fitted, with stiffer springs, and Poly bushed where possible, a thicker anti-roll bar has been fitted to enhance the handling. The engine has been lightened and balanced, rebored + 80 thou, the Head has been modified to run on un-leaded fuel, with bigger valves and porting, a 731 fast road cam has been fitted with duplex timing gears and chain, electronic ignition, a Weber 45 DCOE carb. and a specially imported 3 branch manifold with a full custom built stainless steel exhaust system, help to give around 105 BHP. The car has a rebuilt 4 synchro gearbox with overdrive, fully rebuilt MGB axle. I have uprated the brakes to a more modern standard, with Willwood 4 pot calipers and larger Vented discs, the rear brakes have been completely renewed, with bigger cylinders and new drums, a dual circuit master cylinder and stainless steel brake lines throughout.
The car has had a complete retrim as the original trim was beyond repair, I have used stainless fixings where possible, the wider 15’’ Morgan wire wheels really set the car off. Most of the bright work is new, as are the light units, I have completely rewired the car with a new wiring loom to include relays and fuses, the aluminium Radiator was specially made for the car and has an electric fan. The car is a ‘C’ type chassis built in 1965 registered January 1966.
