An immensely rare AVO Mk1 Ford Escort RS2000 detailed to perfection.
Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) Type 49 body, front quarter bumpers, flared wheel arches, strengthened chassis rails, strengthened flitch plates, reinforced front suspension strut top mounting plates, rear radius rods, safety glass, anti-burst locks, black painted aluminium grille, six pod sports binnacle, heater fan, two speed wiper, courtesy light, cigar lighter, heated rear window. Factory fitted options; Driver/passenger seat headrests.
Finished in the only optional and very desirable metallic colour available, Stardust Silver, (Code 3), this genuine RS2000 is stunning. Amazing detailing throughout and extending to the underside will please the most critical of owners and onlookers. AVO workmanship is laid bare for all to see. The chrome, rubbers, and badges are in immaculate order with the distinctive wide blue decals adding the perfect and immediately recognisable RS look. The correct 7” diameter round sealed beam Cibe quartz halogen headlamps are fitted along with the windscreen wiper anti-lift aero-foil to the drivers side. Very difficult to fault in all repects and most certainly show winning quality.
Fabulous in every respect and true to a Ford RS2000 interior with incredible attention to detail. The brushed nylon RS sports seats, (Code A1), with optional headrests match a spotless loop pile carpet throughout and unmarked door cards. All sports instrumentation functions including the correct 130mph and 7000rpm speedometer and tachometer providing at a glance concise information. The padded facia top has no cracks and the boot area continues the showroom experience. This is one for the RS connoisseur wanting to enjoy a top class motoring legend.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Prepare for gasps of amazement as onlookers marvel under the spotlessly clean bonnet of this Escort RS2000. The 2.0 Ford ‘Pinto’ unit offers ample performance thanks to a downdraught compound twin-choke Weber carburettor and a free-flow exhaust manifold so 100bhp and 0-60mph in 9.0 seconds with a top speed of 108mph is possible. The metal Ford Motor Co chassis plate has been replaced but the original has been retained in the history file for authenticity. The factory AVO plate remains attached. The single selector rail shift four speed synchromesh gearbox offers short, positive snappy gear changes and is an absolute delight to use.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
5 ½ J X 13” RS alloy wheels are all stamped H71AB-1007-AC and are unmarked shod in matching branded 175/70 R13 tyres. An unused spare is strapped and angled in the boot on the correct RS wheel. The direct acting vacuum servo assistance dual-line braking system works effectively.
Built at Fords Advanced Vehicle Operations factory in Aveley in April 1974 this vehicle is one of 3,759 genuine AVO RS2000’s built for the UK market, of which only a fraction now survive. Purchased by Mr M Holland from the RS Dealer, A.Gray & Co Ltd Guildford, for the sum of £1,883.36 on the 1st January 1975. The original service book remains with the history file along with a lever arch file of other documents including a photo of the car in its amazing discovered original condition. With just six former keepers in total this car has remained with Ford enthusiasts throughout and should be preserved as one of the finest examples currently available.
MOT October 2017, HPI Clear.
