Chassis *02424* is a standard, early-production European "E Model" version Dino 246GT/E. Its assembly was LHD domestic "European" and it was delivered in August of 1971. The Carrozzeria Scaglietti Job/Assembly Sequence Number for chassis 02424 is "151E". It was sequentially recorded as 151E of the estimated two hundred 'Series E' cars built of a total of 832 cars (all 246GT’s) produced in 1971.
The Ferrari factory Certificate No. 0020188 records the build completion date as August 24th, 1971. The car was ordered and delivered to the official Ferrari Dealer for Rome and Bologna, MOTOR S.a.s. di Carla Allegretti e C. It was assembled with no known options and originally finished in Red (Rosso Chiaro 20-R-190) with a black interior (Nero 161 black vinyl).
The exact date of importation and conversion is unknown but the vehicle is listed in the Australian Ferrari Register of 1988-89, Registration No. OJO250. The register later lists the car as owned by Mark West (1990-92) and David Porritt (1993) followed by the current owner since 2006.
In 2007, an extensive restoration commenced with Ferrari specialists in Adelaide which involved the vehicle being completely stripped of components in preparation for refurbishment. The engine, gearbox and clutch were removed, dismantled and rebuilt as required. The body shell underwent back-to-bare metal treatment and was repainted to the original factory colour ‘Rosso Chiaro 20-R-190’ in 2-pack finish. The chassis, mechanical compartments and wheels were prepared and repainted to original factory colours (list of extensive works undertaken available upon request).
During this restoration period, the car was fully re-trimmed by Alan Smith Vehicle Trimming, including: roof lining, seats rebuilt using Cicognani foam, Muirhead Sateen black leather hides to seats, firewall and doors, and period correct interior floor carpets and heel pads. Re-trimming of all vinyl, boot lid woollen fabric and carpet, and ‘mousehair’ dash was completed in fabrics supplied by HVL Products, The Netherlands. The car also has a period correct and working Becker ‘Mexico’ Cassette Radio and electric aerial.
Included with the sale are the correct and rare key fob and Neiman/Silca Italy keys, the owner’s pouch with all correct books, warranty cards, elettrico clock tag, Becker radio hand-book and original Shell duster. Spare keys plus a spare leather pouch and small format ‘operating, maintenance and service handbook’ are included to carry in the vehicle. Also included is a period correct tool roll with a full set of original tools, jack, jack bag, wheel nut wrench, wheel chock and (replacement) emergency triangle.
This completely restored Ferrari on offer presents a rare opportunity to acquire an extraordinary, matching number 246 Dino Ferrari Berlinetta which is a PininFarina designed, Scaglietti built, rolling work of art.
