Daimler Double Six Series 2 For Sale (1978)
|1 of only 1925 Daimler Double Six S2 RHD. Originally registered 1978.The first owner kept the car for two years. The second owner purchased the car 1980 (receipt in file) and kept the car until 2000. When the third owner purchased in 2000, the body work was restored to high standard at a cost of £10k A lever arch file includes receipts and photos of the restoration. At that time the car had a complete respray. In 2017, 17 years later, the paintwork is impeccable with only a few barely perceptible marks. |
The third owner bought the car mainly because of the condition of the interior. The sumptuous russet red leather has benefited from regular feeding over many years. It has a sight patina but is sublimely soft. The wood dashboard varnish is flawless. The factory fit climate control is still fully functioning and adjusts the incoming air to maintain a steady preset temperature in the car. On hot days, the airconditioning is more than capable of quickly reducing the heat to shivering temperature if you desire. The refrigerant was upgraded to modern R134 in 2012.
The V12 engine starts and runs beautifully. Idling with a distinctive purr and only breaking sweat into a roar when you take advantage of the GM400 transmissionís kickdown. The 285bhp is more than enough to give this car a sense of urgency when you need it. The previous owner and I have taken the car on numerous overseas trips including Ireland, Switzerland, Italy and France. 100mph on German autobahns is as silent, serene and relaxed as 50mph. If you desire the ultimate in speed, the quoted top speed is 150 mph, which is significantly greater than six-cylinder equivalent 95mph.
The heritage certificate shows the factory fit options (chrome wheels and climate control) and also the car has matching engine and chassis numbers.
This car is not for shy retiring types. It always gets noticed at shows not least because of the desirable classic colour combination of dark blue and red leather.
