47,100 Miles, One owner for 22 years. Tax to 31 Jan 2010 MOT to September 1st 2009
Meticulously rebuilt between 2005 and 2007including new original Citroen chassis, roof, seats, Michelin tyres. Re-painted with 2 pack paint. Have a look at the total parts used later in the description.

I bought this car from it’s original owner in July 2005. The car was last taxed in 1992 and had been stored in their garage since then. They decided to sell it when they moved from Leicestershire to France in 2005.

I restored it between 2005 and 2007 and am now selling it on behalf of my friend who bought it from me. I am a competent amateur mechanic having renovated two 1960’s 2cvs in the past and more recently built a Caterham 7 from a kit, which wasn’t difficult, and a Westfield XI, which was.

All welding and painting of the bodywork were done professionally as I can’t do either.

Chassis
The chassis is a new original Citroen unit. All the chassis seams were painted with rust inhibiting undercoat and then with International satin black paint. The chassis was then filled with old engine oil on a very hot summer’s day in 2006. It was a very messy job but this method is recognised as one of the best ways of keeping a 2cv chassis rust free.

Engine
The engine was running well when taken off the old chassis but I decided to put new barrels and pistons in it as this is a simple job especially as all the engine cowling had been removed for bead blasting and powder coating. The cylinder heads were professionally ground and cleaned before reassembly. The engine is still being run-in having only done about 150 miles since the car has been taxed and back on the road.

Gearbox
The gearbox is nice and slick so it has only had a fill of new Citroen BV oil to keep it running smoothly

Bodywork
The main body was in pretty good condition as the car had been stored in a garage by the previous owners. The inner and outer lower bulkhead panels and the front passenger side floor were replaced. I bought a very nice rust free bonnet and boot lid to replace the originals whose hinges were both beyond repair.

Wheels & Tyres
The wheels were bead-blasted and powder coated in a very close match to the body colour. It has 4 new Michelin tyres and a very good original Michelin on the spare.

Bead blasting is a great way to remove surface rust, paint and general muck providing a good base for powder-coating. This is a list of all the parts that I can remember that I had blasted and coated, despite some parts being new.

Viewing
If you are interested in this car it is really worth coming to have a look at it. Everyone that sees it says it’s stunning.
The pictures were taken at the Oakley Village day in 2007, where it won ‘Best turned out’ car but it looks pretty much the same today having only covered about 500 miles since the restoration.
