VAUXHALL Fourteen-Six Model J SOLD (1939)
|We acquired this wonderful 1939 Vauxhall Fourteen-Six Model J from a regular customer who has a small collection of classic cars all of a very high standard. We have had the pleasure of selling five of his cars in the past few years as he likes to use them for a season or two and then sell in order to to buy a model he has not owned before.|
Prior to his ownership it was acquired in 1987 by an enthusiast in the North West after lying in storage for nearly 40 years. This enthusiast who was the parts manager of a Vauxhall Main Dealer, set about restoring the car to the superb standard we see today.
As it had been off the road for many years the car needed to be re-registered with the DVLA. He applied to them to register it on its original registration number but it took over 12 months and numerous letters back and forth before the DVLA agreed to reunite the car with the correct original number due to the car being of historical importance.
It now wears with pride the original registration number FUV671.
The restoration took over a year to complete as it completely dismantled and the body taken back to bare metal before being resprayed to a very high standard.
The engine, transmission, suspension, radiator, water pump and brakes were all fully overhauled before being refitted along with a new battery and a new Auto-Sparks wiring loom. The original seats were refurbished, new carpets were obtained and new rubbers and beading were fitted. The bumpers and bright work were all rechromed.
When the restoration was finished, the owner took it to various shows including the 1990 Cheshire Classic Car Spectacular where it won the Best Vauxhall in Show and a trophy for the Best Restoration of the Year.
The history file contains the current V5 log book, a previous V5, the numerous letters to and from the DVLA showing the process of reuniting the car with its original registration number, the current MOT, 25 previous MOT certificates dating back to the restoration in 1988, old road tax discs along with taxation history and dozens of invoices detailing the parts purchased for the restoration and subsequent expenditure.
The file also contains different newspaper articles showing the car at various classic car events along with some original period adverts for the Vauxhall 14. The car also comes complete with a set of service and maintenance manuals.
Although the car is now MOT exempt as it was manufactured prior to 1960, it has an MOT which runs until May 2018. The current recorded mileage is 79215.
Rules that commenced in October 2014 mean that the car will need to be licensed for twelve months from the date of sale for the new owner but this will be free as the car qualifies for the Historic Taxation class.
Very difficult to find in this condition.
