|FOR SALE |
An early 5 Speed Honda SS50 in tremendous show condition.
Chrome front and rear mudguards, pillion footrests, pedals, dual seat, chrome mirrors, ignition switch, steering lock, neutral light, turn signal switch, headlight switch, stop light, indicators, electromagnetic horn, speedometer, fuel valve, helmet holder.
Finished to an impeccable standard the sturdy backbone type pressed steel frame has been painted the correct black for the 76 model year and the professionally painted Shiny Orange fuel tank is virtually unmarked. Pristine decals and bright chrome work make this super sports moped a real collectors delight with receipts from specialists helping to reveal the detail and expense lavished on this rare machine. The recovered seat with Honda embossed logo is comfortable with room for two and is in superb condition. All electrical equipment and the pedal system that allowed the rider to disengage the engine fitted to meet UK moped laws is in working order. A beautiful piece of Honda history.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The Honda air-cooled 4-stroke O.H.C engine has a 49cc displacement which was claimed to do an impressive 120mpg. To match the performance of the 2-stroke competition, the engine output was improved on the later engines by fitting larger jets and a high compression piston complete with cut-outs to miss the valves, giving this machine a top speed of over 50 mph. All components are fully rebuilt and detailed to a high standard even the original Keihin piston valve type carburettor remains fitted. The bike has a five speed foot change transmission with a chain drive.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Factory spoked D.I.D wheels display a mirror chrome finish thanks to being fully refurbished and fitted with 2.50-17 tyres. Drum brakes front and rear provide adequate braking of this sporty moped and indicate its early production 5 speed status.
This Honda SS50ZK-2E model was first registered on 18th July 1977. A family owned moped since the 80’s spending many years unused in the garage when it was then pasted down from father to son in 2001. It was used for a further couple of years before being laid up in the garage again until 2014 where restoration of this rare pre-disc 1976 model was undertaken. A no expense spared project with attention to detail in sourcing correct genuine parts and where this was not possible, refurbishment of the original parts, to bring this moped to show condition. With a history file of invoices of parts sourced and work carried out by specialists this bike is a sight to behold.
This excellent example has formed part of a collection and has not been used on the road since completion it is now ready for the next lucky customer to enjoy.
