Exceptional MG TC For Sale (1948)This is an exceptional ex-USA car, which remained with one owner from new until 1996, when it was repatriated to the UK. Fully restored to concours condition in 1992 by its first owner, it has had much further work carried out, including modification for unleaded fuel. A complete engine rebuild was carried out in 2015 as well as a brake overhaul and conversion to silicon fluid. A fully documented, genuine matching numbers car with heritage certificate and an interesting history. The original tax disc is still with the car and it has been re-registered under its original registration number.
The car’s first owner, who purchased it new in the United States in 1948, kept it in his possession until selling it in 1996 to a UK dealer who repatriated it to Britain. The American owner used the car until 1964, when it was laid up in storage for over 30 years until 1992, at which point he decided to have it professionally restored. The car was then used only for concours events (to which it was transported in a carpeted, covered trailer!).
Between 1996 and 2014 the TC seems only to have covered some 5000 miles in the hands of its subsequent five owners, (not counting the importing dealer, through whose hands it passed twice).
Although little used, much work has been done on the car to keep it up to standard. Some of the work done, such as the brake overhaul, was to remedy the effects of a lack of use rather than those of wear and tear.
The engine underwent a complete rebuild in 2015, including re-boring with the fitting of new pistons. New main and big-end bearings, camshaft bearings and a new timing chain have also been installed, as has a rear main bearing oil seal. A new clutch plate was also fitted before re-installing the engine in the car. The cylinder head had been converted for lead-free fuel with hardened valves, new springs and bronze valve guides in 2013.
Many other new parts have been fitted for convenience or reliability and include a new thermostat in the cooling system, a replacement cartridge-type oil filter and a new, original pattern electronic S.U. fuel pump. A new coil and voltage regulator have also been installed. A new exhaust system has been fitted.
Although no longer classified as “Concours” as the car was acquired for road use, it remains, nevertheless in exceptional condition.
The majority of the car's history is fully documented with the majority of the work carried out being supported by the relevant invoices. A heritage certificate is provided.
