CITROEN GSA Special ~ Exceptional Prize Winning Car ~ SOLD (1982)
|This Citroen GSA Special will be one of the best of the few surviving examples left worldwide.|
Since 1991 it has been owned by three Citroen enthusiasts who between them have spent an extraordinary amount of money on maintenance and improving the car to bring it up to the unbelievable standard we see today.
The first of these three owners stripped the car and serviced and cleaned everything he took off. At the same time he injected waxoyle under high pressure on baking hot days into every box section and crevice which is part of the reason it is in such remarkable condition today. He kept the car for six years and only sold it in 1997 as he had three other GS's/GSA's and found he did not use it enough to justify keeping it.
The second of these three enthusiast owners bought the car in 2000 and kept it for 15 years until 2015. During this period he spent over £4000 on work and improvements. This included nearly £2500 in 2010 at the Chevronic Centre Ltd, the main Citroen GSA UK specialists based in Hitchen. This work included fitting timing belts and tensioners, replacing the spheres and re-wax injecting the whole car along with various other work.
In 2015 the car was sold to its last owner who was looking for the best GSA he could find in order to elevate it to concours standard. In the last two years he has spent a total of £9654 to attain the standard we see today.
This work included a interior trim refurbishment at a cost of £2260 and further work by the Chevronic Centre totalling £6801 which included fitment of an upgraded five speed gearbox, new alternator, replacing all engine seals, new belts and tensioners, powder coating the road wheels, fitting new hub caps and new bumpers along with numerous trim parts and mouldings.
In April 2016 the owner drove it to Stamford to exhibit it in the Citroen Car Club X-Rally where it won a "Best of Show prize. It also comes with a winning "Best GSA of the Rally" plaque.
This owner has improved it with no regard to cost as it was to be shown and enjoyed over the coming years but is now regrettably for sale only due to impending loss of driving licence due to ill health.
The history file contains the current V5, the current MOT which runs until May 2018, the original Service Book, a number of previous MOT certificates and road tax discs, the Best of Show certificate and dozens of invoices for the parts fitted and work completed during the past 26 years. The current recorded mileage is 86997.
It is likely to turn out to be an excellent investment over the next few years.
