History

I originally purchased the 750S frame and engine from John Fallon at Made in Italy Motorcycles in October 2007. The engine was stripped, Vapour Blasted and rebuilt by John Baines at Silverstone with new pistons and the 40mm Malossi inlet conversion fitted. The engine retains the wide stud spacing but runs 32mm Dell Orto carbs for better low to mid range. A pair of 40mm Dellorto carbs in excellent condition are included in the sale.
In 2011 The engine was subsequently given to Ducati Guru Tony Brancato for a Desmo conversion. He also fitted his Stainless Tower Tubes at the same time, he documented the build with photographs which are included. The bike has been tuned over the 1950 miles from 'new'.
The bike has been built with as many original Ducati new old stock parts as possible, these include, Kickstart, a super rare New and unused set of Leading Axle Marzocchi front forks ( As used on the original factory winning bike) and clamps, retaining the top lugs for future use if required.
Other detail Items such as the gear change levers/ footrests/ chainguard/ Veglia clocks/ clutch lever were all sourced as new old stock items.
The forks have been fitted with a full Sports Motorcycles, Sports Valve conversion, giving both adjustable damping and rebound. This along with the Koni Rear Shocks ( adjustable preload and damping) puts the suspension and comfort into a different league over a standard machine. It comes with the adjustment tool and full instructions, the forks are visually identical to standard.
I sourced a genuine used Borrani 4777 18" front wheel but used the standard Borrani 18" WM3 Rear. Both rims were built by Central Wheel with Stainless Steel Spokes and Nickel Plated Nipples. The front disc carriers are original items and have 'DUCATI' stamped on them.
The bike has had the charging system uprated using Electrex components, so stator/ rotor and Reg Rec, obviously the real weak spot in bevels i. e. the coils have been replaced as well. The bike uses Lucas Moira Electronic Ignition ( John
Carpenter's Uprated replacement for Lucas Rita) , which uses less power and gives a stronger spark for starting.
Front Brakes are refurbished original three fin Lockheed's with a new 'Classic' handlebar master cylinder. Brake lines are Stainless braided with Stainless fittings and black hose coating.
Rear Brake is a Grimeca caliper with again braided hose from the 750SS Lockheed master cylinder which works well.
The fibreglass Fairing and rear Mud Guard and side panels were made in 'original' rough weave finish again by Tony Brancato, the front guard being a hand crafted aluminium item.
Petrol taps are genuine Brev Orlandi.
Exhaust system and clamps are Original Conti and are all new old stock apart from the right hand silencer which was bought new from Mdina Italia. Tyres are Avon Rear, Metzeler Lasertec front, both with lots of tread.
All the 10mm bolts on the bike ( except the stainless wheel bolts) are original OBA, the rear shock bottom bolts use NOS nuts still with their original Cadmium plating. All other hex bolts are quality Stainless Steel items supplied by Dave Middleton, so have the nice clean faces, the engine socket screws are all stainless as is the New Old Stock Chainguard.
The bike has the correct Jod Duplo headlamp and Rim, the reflector has been carefully re-silvered. It has the correct NOS Aprilia Dipswitch on the left bar.
The wiring loom was completely replaced in June of this year by Richard Prowse of Motorcycle Wiring Specialists at Cheltenham, very neat with quality connectors throughout.
Paintwork was done by Revolution Custom Paint at Reading and was specifically 'aged' to give a slight Bronze tone to match how the original Ducati silver paint faded over time, it's very subtle but makes for nice attention to detail.
The bike starts easily and runs and ticks over well, it turns heads, gets thumbs up and starts conversations wherever it goes, a real pleasure to share with admirers.
A significant but rarely stated benefit of the Desmo conversion over a valve spring is in lack of engine noise, at low speeds you can hear the whirr of the Bevel drives rather than the clatter of traditional valve springs, it makes the engine a lot quieter, as revs increase the sound of the Conti silencers take over, this should be made the official sound of Italy!
The engine has always been run on straight 50 grade oil, and has had two oil changes since the build.
To pre answer the obvious question, Why am I selling? two reasons, I have to admit that age is having it's effects on my body and also I need to free up my limited storage space for an upcoming purchase.
Although It's a tribute to an original machine, the bike is definitely not trying to purport to be an original 750SS, however at first glance you would really have to know your Ducati's to tell the difference, the frame is stamped with it's correct 750S number, as is the engine which is in the late 753*** number series.
The bike is registered on the UK V5C registration document as a 1974 750 Sport and the colour scheme could be put back to original yellow and black if preferred. have an Original 19" Borrani front rim and mudguard stays if required. 750 Sports are currently fetching in excess of £35, 000, and rising.
The bike has current Mot until next year It also helps that the bike is now officially an Historic vehicle and therefore has zero road tax and fuel consumption in excess of 60mpg.
Viewings are welcome and recommended, although in extremely good overall condition, unlike some Ducati 'ornaments', the bike is used on a regular basis during the summer, so therefore has a few very small nicks here and there, it's not a concours trailer queen show bike and all the better for it.
The bike will be available for sale from September 2017 and Genuine enquiries and viewings only are welcomed, please only enquire if you are in a position to buy. Part exchange not an option. Hi res photo's are available on request.
Regular watchers will note the price reduction,
Thanks for looking

The 40mm Dellortos, brakes, forks, and shocks were all rebuilt, while tires, tubes, battery and paint were all new. ...
