2000 Stunning Ferrari 250 SWB Replica SOLD
- details above
Just had full 3 stage detailing at Scorpion Detailing including ceramic coating and looks incredible!
- details above
~ Please do not confuse this with other cars- a lot of time, money and effort went in to choosing the right parts, many original to give this an authentic 60's classic Italian feel (read below) ~
Not specifically a replica as Ferrari never offered the 250 berlinetta body shape in convertible form, this is more an evocation of the 250 swb and akin to coach built specials from around that time.
In reality more pretty than a 250 California replica. Based on a BMW Z3 you get classic Italian looks combined with modern performance and equipment. It’s cheap to insure (around £180 fully comp), returns up to 32 MPG and is cheap to service.
This car turns heads wherever it goes, be prepared to talk about it at length to the many interested people who will stop and ask. Be prepared also for other cars coming alongside taking photos and videos, thumbs ups and shouts of “beautiful car!” – it will happen on pretty much any drive out. I attended the Maldon Classic Car show 2 months ago (massive event - great day out) and the car got an immense amount of interest as well as several photos taken from other cars en route.
This particular car was built by Nubodi Automotive and used as a show car on their stand at the Stoneleigh Kit Car Show last year.
I went to great lengths sourcing the best, most accurate parts for this build to make it look production.
DONOR SPECIFICATION
The donor car is a year 2000 Z3 2. 8 facelift. It is the twin vanos version and has a slight power increase over the earlier 2. 8s.
The car has covered only 89, 200 miles. Service book stamped up to 81, 000
It benefits from:
Driver and passenger door airbags – a very rare option
Electric windows (both one touch)
ABS
traction control
remote central locking alarm and immobiliser
2 sets of original keys (2 remotes and program keys)
leather wallet with lots of handbooks including the owners handbook
Air conditioning
Service history and old MOTs
12 months MOT (no advisories)
Power roof (5 seconds and you are in the sunshine) which does not leak - fully proofed during detailing - you can actually blow water drops off it! The rear window was replaced only a couple of years ago
Complete with hood cover
BODY AND FITTINGS
Exterior – Nero black paint. A fantastic contrast to the chrome.
No external badges – I decided not to put any badging on the car as it simply felt wrong. It’s a stunningly pretty car - I know what it is, I know what it isn’t. That said it’s a blank canvas for badging if that’s your thing!
250 private plate – the only clue to what the car really is if you read it right i. e. 1 x Z3 250!
If you’re in a rush and people are asking what the car is just tell them to read the number plate slowly.
Chromed grill surround - Special chrome finish by Chrome FX Basildon gives additional class
Hand made reproduction alloy bumpers – no cost spared, painstakingly reproduced by Bonville Panelcraft. Highly polished, they look simply fabulous and give a proper air of authenticity - probably the most obvious differentiator against other replicas. A profile was taken from original bumpers and correct tooling sourced to recreate as per OEM. The rear bumper is in three sections. Some replicas you will see use GRP bumpers with a chrome finish, as used on modern cars window/ wing mirror and bumper trim strips – this looks great from a distance but doesn’t look quite right in close quarters. These alloy bumpers are a work of art and elevate the look of the car to production.
LA Custom 72 Spoke knock off wheels – more expense. I had these imported from Australia Classic Wire Wheels. Yes you read right – they have come from Australia! They are identical to Dayton USA wheels using a tapered spinner and key lock system. I went for these because they gave the best offset I could get. One of the issues with these cars is getting the wheel inside the arch as per the original rather than in line, or worse, poking out requiring arch extensions. Although the original had 15 inch wheels (and many choose that size because of this) the Z3 is a little taller in the body and so the wheel arch on the kit is larger than original hence the 15 inch wheels look IMHO too small (just my opinion) and don’t fill the arch properly. This is why I opted for 16 inch which also give you a much higher quality of tyre choices. The rims are shod with Dunlop Blu Response 215/ 65 - the Dunlop logo looks great and tyres themselves provide excellent grip and wet weather traction.
Eibach 30mm lowering springs – fitting these I think really did achieve the best possible stance for the car. If you prefer a more upright look the original springs come with the car.
Original chrome door handles – again no cost spared, they give the right look. There is a functioning external lock only on the drivers handle – exactly as per original – or use the central locking.
Original side repeaters – to keep the 60’s air going, these are as per original 250
Reproduction jack hole covers – Non functional, Imitating the classic jack holes seem on many iterations of Ferrari, not just the 250.
Reproduction stainless exhausts – yet again no expense spared. The exhaust system was custom made by highly respected fabricators Haywood and Scott - details above. They have previously made exhaust systems for the real thing (look at the main pic on their website – how many million stood in one place?). They are beautifully made with original style slash cut ends and sound superb. The catalytic convertor remains, however there is no silencing past that point. It sounds glorious and authentic to the period. The exhaust is an important part of the look of the car and they nailed it.
Internal boot hinges – this was a cost option but was well worth it IMO keeping uninterrupted lines.
Tex stainless Talbot style bullet mirrors
INTERIOR
Moss Classic leather seats – new leather reclining seats with perforated leather insets. They look very period and very Italian. Headrests are included. Extremely comfortable they are mounted to the original Z3 electric runners meaning reach and height and adjustable at the push of a button. - details above
Nardi three spoke steering wheel with centre push horn. I mention the horn because using a cheaper boss often means the horn button has to be mounted elsewhere like the dash. This has the original BMW steering wheel slip ring mounted. Also note the airbag light has not been removed as per some replicas – it functions correctly as do the remaining airbags in the car. Your safety has not been compromised.
OEM style alloy gear lever and black ball knob
If I kept the car...
I would consider fitting the Marchal Spotlights which are included in the sale (brand new, boxed, unused reproductions with covers) – I’ve uploaded a picture of them trial fitted to give an idea of the look. The wiring is all in place and tucked back in the nose so wiring in is a simple job.
The DNA California replicas which are now no longer available cost over double this and are arguably not quite as pretty.
Not a car for hustling round the backstreets, it’s a surprisingly comfortable and very capable grand tourer that will draw admiration wherever you take it but more importantly, which will give immense satisfaction to the driver.
Top down + sun out + exhaust howling and popping = unbeatable

The Ferrari 250 GT Pinin Farina is Ferrari’s first volume model. You understand: volume model should be taken with a grain of salt in this case because only 350 units of the 250 ‘PF’ will be built. I have had this car since 1995. I love it. The early years of Ferrari were focused around racing; only a small number of road vehicles were produced for a select few high profile customers. With the competition costs increasing in the 1950s it was necessary for Ferrari to increase road car production as a means of raising additional funds. In 1954, the Pinin ...
