1952 BSA Star Twin A7ST 500cc SOLD

This fully restored motorcycle represents an historic year for BSA. In September of 1952 three new machines like this one were selected at random from the BSA production line by an independent ACU observer. These were ridden by Norman Vanhouse, Brian Martin and Fred Rist a total of 5000 miles across France to take part in the International Six Days Trial in Austria in which they all won Gold Medals. They carried on north to Oslo in Norway and then returned to Britain. The weather during the whole event was wet and cold, but all the machines completed the tour without fault. BSA were awarded the Maudes Trophy for this achievement. Only one of the three motorcycles that took part has survived and is in the National Motorcycle Museum (MOL 303).
The machine I am offering for sale is the same model as the three that took part in the Trial.
The motorcycle is totally original and bears its original registration number, although this is not transferable as it had to be re-registered in 1996. The old log book comes with it and the V5C. Frame and engine numbers are matching and receipts for all work and parts used in the restoration are included in the sale.
The bike starts and runs superbly ( these 500 BSAs are quick). There is a slight whine from 3rd gear, but this does not affect the performance or reliability and is a very common fault with BSA pre-unit gearboxes.
This is a rare, honest and genuine example of a BSA icon and deserves a good home. I shall be sorry to part with it, but I need the space for another project.

I am willing to consider sensible offers.
