1938 BSA Scout Four Seat Tourer SOLD

This nicely restored BSA Scout Four Seat Tourer was owned in the 1930's by the band leader, entertainer, radio and TV personality Billy Cotton. He was known for being an amateur football player for Brentford and Wimbledon, a band leader who's orchestra survived the British dance band era and is most remembered as a 1950's and 1960's TV and radio personality.

AFE 309 has been somewhat of a long term restoration that has had the final touches carried out by our workshop Malton Coachworks. Invoices from the early 1990's detail various bright work and chrome plating, catches, knobs, bearings, washers, seals and pins. Several invoices are also present from a Vintage Coachbuilders for various work on the car including two new front wings supplied by the engineering and sheet metalwork specialists.

In more recent years the BSA has been treated to a full re-paint, re-trimmed upholstery, new weather equipment and a program of mechanical work to include an engine rebuild and gearbox rebuild. The BSA came to us earlier in 2017 and has since had £6500 worth of expenditure enabling the BSA to be a useable car once again. The car has been completely re-wired with a brand new wiring harness set. Ignition items to include rotor arm, coil, condenser, points, spark plugs and plug heads have been replaced and rear brake shoes have been re-lined. Over £1300 has been spent on new tyres and tubes, the dynamo has been overhauled and a new battery fitted. The starter motor has been rebuilt and brakes overhauled, wheel bearings adjusted various adjustments made as required.

AFE 309 now drives very well. The engine runs sweetly with good oil pressure, the pre selector gearbox is a delight to use and the car brakes and handles very well. The BSA now charges correctly and with a new wiring loom is in excellent order with regards its electrical system. The car presents beautifully with lovely paintwork and chrome, the upholstery has been nicely trimmed and the car is now a lovely useable example that is ready to enjoy.
