1961 PONTON 180Db "ONE AND ONLY" a short wheel-base (W120) model 4-door sedan, perhaps it was the only 180Db PONTON specially manufactured along with the style of the luxury (W121) long wheel-base 220S and 220SE Ponton models;
Features such as indicator housing above the head-lamps, big rear lights and additional chrome trims on the doors and wings. this car also fitted with a broader grill, fatter bumpers and lavish wood on top of the dashboard, white-steering wheel,fog-lamps and wider rear window. The car has the original 1.767cc DIESEL engine with a manual transmission. Very economical classic car, fuel consumpition is about 29.3 MPG.
"Mercedes 180D models were entered in the rugged mille race in 1955, three 180D models won the first three places in their special disel classification". 1960-1961 180Db has been one of the last Diesel Ponton.
HISTORY: This is an original right hand drive up-great 180Db Ponton (chassis# 12011020020104 and engine# 63693020021958); it was specially supplied to a foreign Embassy in Singapore in 1961 for personal use. Then car was imported and registered in England in June 1969, A document shows that the last Mot has expired in Septmber 1996, it has done only 88,000 miles, then kept in dry stored and look after well. IT HAD ONLY 2 PREVIOUS OWNERS before I acquired into my collection. Original-documents / bill of sale-items, data cards, owner's manual, original 180Db parts-catalog, models manual, original-radio instruction,old mot, and old/1960's black and white photo of this car etc.
CONDITION: Presentable as seen in the photos, the body is in good condition, no welding requires underneath, all necessary work have been done,including recenly service, new relays and electric has been checked. The engine runs well, gear-box works well, a new battery and good tyres. The wipers are ok but it may require little attention for a new MOT test. Only fuel tank door lock is missing but able to find this item. The interior is amazing condition with good original full RUBBER FLOOR COVERING, seats and roof covering are also in very good condition, original radio, recenly re-finished walnut wood, good white steering wheel and original tools etc. Additional front wing, head-lamps with chrome and few other items comes with the car.
It has a superb interior, can be used as is, but a fresh paint work and re-chrome a few items would bring this nearly 50 years old "one and only" rare car into its former glory! This is turly a collector's item, you can't find a rare like this anywhere. The car is currently kept in a garage as part of my collection, no MOT at present, and offered for sale as seen. Therefore, please contact me to arrange to view the car in Surrey. "NO TIMEWASTERS PLEASE"
