Uno dei modelli più importanti che nascono in Italia nel dopoguerra è l'Aurelia, la prima autovettura al mondo ad utilizzare un motore V6. Progettata durante gli anni della seconda guerra mondiale da Francesco de Virgilio e presentata Salone dell'Auto di Torino del 1950, l'Aurelia B10 era mossa da un motore V6 a 60°, interamente realizzato in alluminio, di 1. 754 cc che utilizzava un sistema di distribuzione con albero a camme centrale e valvole in testa comandate da corti bilancieri anziché il tradizionale albero a camme in testa della tradizione Lancia. Un esempio di design avanzato di costruzione monoscocca, l'Aurelia ha mantenuto la sospensione anteriore a foderi telescopici a cannocchiale della Lancia, prima vista sulla Lambda, ma ha utilizzato un nuovo sistema a bracci diagonali per la sospensione posteriore, un altra prima assoluta a livello mondiale. Anche la trasmissione era di tipo non convenzionale, seppur già vista in altre sporadiche occasioni, con l'albero di trasmissione in due pezzi abbinato, con un sistema transaxle, al gruppo unico cambio e differenziale posizionato al retrotreno, sui cui venivano montati i freni entrobordo. La berlina originale B10 è stata poi affiancata l'anno successivo dalla leggendaria B20 Coupé disegnata da Pininfarina, una vettura 2+2 con la coda che si estendeva dall'abitacolo senza soluzione di continuità, montata su un telaio con passo accorciato e capace di unire le prestazioni di una vettura sportiva alla praticità di una berlina e che, in pratica, ha introdotto il concetto della Gran Turismo al mondo. Modelli con carrozzerie montati su telai con passo più lungo o motori più grandi, con differenti livelli di potenza, seguiranno, mentre, per soddifare le richieste e le esigenze dei carrozzieri indipendenti Lancia ha offerto il telaio B50 a passo lungo (291cm) basato sulla meccanica della B10 e successivamente il telaio B52, fornito con il motore 2. 0 litri della B20 / B21. Questo esemplare di un modello chiave di uno dei più carismatici produttori automobilistici Europei, assemblato all'inizio della fase produttiva, utilizza una carrozzeria coupé realizzata dagli Stabilimenti Farina di Torino, l'azienda di famiglia dove il maestro dello stile automobilistico Battista 'Pinin' Farina ha imparato il mestiere. Secondo le informazioni fornite dal venditore, questa splendida e rara B50 coupé è stata restaurata in modo totale dai rispettati restauratori dell'Officina Faralli, vicino a Pisa. Il motore è stato completamente revisionato ed è stato installato un nuovo sistema di scarico fabbricato dalla ASSO Marmitte. Praticamente, ogni componente della vettura è stato controllato e, dove necessario, restaurato. Le belle linee della carrozzeria in alluminio mostrano un'eleganza senza tempo e, ben si abbinano alla combinazione cromatica di nero su interni in panno Lancia beige. I due sedili anteriori sono completati da due strapuntini, abbattibili, posteriori. Pochissimi gli esemplari di Lancia Aurelia B50 Coupé Satbilimenti Farina costruiti e, ancor meno, quelli arrivati ai giorni nostri, rendendo questo esemplare, di fatto, un perfetto canditato ad un utilizzo turistico o a quello di partecipante, senz'altro entusiasticamente accolto ai Concorsi di Eleganza. L'auto è offerta con i documenti dell'immatricolazione francesi annullati, ma ancora dotata delle sue targhe italiane. Rara e desiderabile, questa Lancia con carrozzeria speciale rappresenta una meravigliosa opportunità per il collezionista esigente, ed è in grado di passare la verifica più approfondita.

One of the most influential designs to emerge from Italy post-WW2, the classic Aurelia was the first car ever to employ a V6 engine. Designed in wartime by Francesco de Virgilio and launched at the 1950 Turin Motor Show, the Aurelia B10 was powered by a 1, 754cc 60-degree V6 of all-aluminium construction that used overhead valves operated via short pushrods instead of Lancia's traditional overhead camshafts. An advanced unitary-construction design, the Aurelia retained Lancia's 'sliding pillar' independent front suspension, first seen on the Lambda, but used a novel semi-trailing-arm layout at the rear, another world first. The transmission too, was unusual, comprising a two-piece prop-shaft and combined gearbox/ rear transaxle on which were mounted the inboard brakes, though for once this was not an entirely new departure. The original B10 saloon was joined the following year by the landmark, Pininfarina-styled B20 Coupé, a fastback '2+2' on a shortened wheelbase which, with its combination of sports car performance and saloon car practicality, can be said to have introduced the Gran Turismo concept to the world. Models with longer wheelbases and larger engines in various states of tune followed, while to cater for independent coachbuilders, Lancia offered the longer-wheelbase (291cm) B50 chassis, based on B10 mechanicals, and later the B52, which came with the 2. 0-litre engine of the B20/ B21.

This very early example of a landmark model from one of motoring's most charismatic marques carries coupé coachwork by Stabiliment, Farina of Turin, the family firm where styling maestro Battista 'Pinin' Farina learned his craft. According to information supplied by the vendor, this stunning and very rare B50 coupé was comprehensively rebuilt by respected restorers, Officina Faralli near Pisa in Italy. The engine has been completely overhauled and a new exhaust system fabricated by ASSO Marmitte, and practically every component of the car has been checked and restored were necessary. The beautiful lines of its aluminium body showing a restrained elegance, the car presents well in black with a correct beige cloth interior, the two front seats being complemented by two foldable occasional rear seats.

Very few of these Farina-bodied Lancia Aurelia B50 Coupés were constructed, and even fewer have survived, making this an ideal candidate either for continental touring or Concours d'Élégance events, where it will surely be enthusiastically welcomed. The car is offered with cancelled French registration documents but still comes with its Italian numberplates. Rare and desirable, this coachbuilt Lancia represents a wonderful opportunity for the discerning collector and is worthy of the closest inspection.
