Sunbeam Tiger Mk1 1965 - 1st UK registered Tiger For Sale

Sunbeam Tiger Mk1 1965
The UK's First Registered Sunbeam Tiger
Low owners, last owner since 1989
Almost £40, 000 spent on full bare shell restoration
New build 289ci engine to fast road spec still running in only 200 miles, original 260ci engine also included.

This is an original UK RHD car in lovely condition. Remarkably this is the very first UK registered Sunbeam Tiger according to correspondence in the history file from Graham Vickery of the Sunbeam Tiger Owners Club who states:"even though (this car's) build date is not the earliest, it holds.... the record for being the earliest registered... Tiger on public roads". This car was built on 26th Jan 1965 and was one of the first few cars built in RHD for the domestic market. It was delivered to the first owner on 15th Feb 1965 which was a month before the official launch date.

The current V5C logbook shows just 2 previous owners (3 owners in total). The last owner acquired it in 1989 and has owned it until the present day. The car is only for sale now due to ill health.

When the previous owner spotted the car over 28 years ago it was not actually for sale but a little persuasion and persistence paid off and the car was purchased. The car was then used regularly including a few trips to LeMans. In 1994 with the mileage showing 53, 300 miles the car was taken off the road for a full bare shell restoration which took almost 10 years to complete. The history file contains many photos, invoices and a record of expenditure to document the restoration. The body was stripped to a bare shell, media blasted and repainted in its original colour Carnival Red (code 039). The rebuild was carried out by renowned expert Brian Postle of the Sunbeam Spares Company in Consett, County Durham. During the restoration all the main original parts were retained including engine, gearbox, rear axle, bodyshell and interior. The rest of the car was rebuilt with new or refurbished parts throughout including:
Genuine Minilite wheels and new Goodyear tyres all round.
New hood
New wiring loom
Many new brake, steering and suspension parts
New stainless twin exhausts
When the restoration was complete the odometer was refurbished and zeroed. Since then the car has covered just over 2750 miles.

Just recently the car was fitted with a completely new build Ford V8 289ci (4727cc) engine as used in the AC Cobra and Tiger Mk2. The engine was stripped, blueprinted and balanced and then rebuilt to fast road spec at a cost of over £9000 including many new parts:
new Edelbrock aluminium cylinder heads
new pistons
new fast road cam
new Edelbrock 500 carburettor
original and scarce air filter assembly is retained

Since installation this engine has completed just 200 miles and is still on running in oil.
The car also comes with the original 260 engine.
The previous owner estimates close to £40, 000 has been spent in total.
Total mileage is believed to be 56, 250 with less than 3000 miles since restoration.

The car is rust free; panel gaps, door shuts and paintwork are very good indeed.
The interior is all to original spec and is in excellent condition.
The car drives beautifully being taught and rattle free.
The engine sound from both induction and exhaust is quite simply awesome.
An exhilarating road car it is also eligible for many historic events and would certainly be a highly competitive machine in the right pair of hands.
The combination of large cc American muscle car power and the oh-so pretty Sunbeam body makes for a truly exciting and irresistible car.
A unique opportunity to acquire the first road registered Sunbeam Tiger in beautiful condition.
Must be one of the best examples in the country.

This 1963 Sunbeam Alpine Series 2 was acquired in Tennessee. Its last long-term owners were a couple who used the car for date nights until 1982, when it was last registered. After decades in storage, the car was passed on to a local resident, who sold it to us a few years later. The little sports car has survived remarkably ...
