1965 Jaguar MKII 3.8 Manual O/D with film and interesting history For Sale

TLG 424D was manufactured on the 1st December 1965 and is genuine RHD 3. 8 MKII supplied new by Henlys of Manchester. The Jaguar was first registered to a Mrs M W Ferguson in Wilmslow, Cheshire and is today still with its original Chester allocated registration mark. The vehicle was bought new from Leighton Motors, Heswall. The very impressive, comprehensive history file confirms that from 1971 to 1982 the Jaguar was off mainland soil and based in Jersey, Channel Islands. The car was brought back to England in 1982 by a Bournemouth based MKII specialist and the car was sold to a private owner in Kent. In 1985 the car was bought by the Co Founder and Director of a company called The Brand Dynamics Group in London who owned the car until the mid 1990's. Over almost ten years the Jaguar led a very interesting life, in 1987 the car featured and co starred with Phil Collins and Julie Walters in the film 'Buster', the Great Train Robbery feature film. In 1989 the owner returned to the USA and didn't leave TLG 424D behind. The Jaguar was kept in the US for 3. 5 years and in 1990 it took first place in the Post War European Sedan class at the prestigious "Eyes on the Classics" invitational car show at Edsel Ford Estate and Museum in Detroit. The previous year it had scored 94. 2 in the Driven Class at Jaguar Affiliates Group (JAG) of Michigan Concours D'Elegance. This placed it second in class behind a brand new XJS Convertible. During ownership the Jaguar was improved with an alternator conversion, Kenlowe fan, high efficiency radiator and oil cooler. The totally original interior was subject of some careful renovation work with originality left where possible. The more significant work during ownership was extensive bodywork to include new sills, low rear wings, door edges and side assemblies in 1986, in 1989 a total engine rebuild to include new pistons and at this time new subframe mounts and new springs were fitted. During 1992 the brakes were overhauled and further paintwork was carried out in 1993.

In 1993 the Jaguar was sold to a Swedish Director of British Midlands Airways Ltd who based for several years in the Nottingham area. Invoices over two years of ownership detail excellent maintenance and upkeep with a Midlands based Jaguar specialist. The Swedish owner resigned from the Midlands based Airways company in 1994 and in October 1995 the car was owned by a Huddersfield based married couple. They bought the car in excellent condition and a well known to us Bentley specialist at the time, Walker and Bamforth maintained the car for them. During their short ownership they attended the JEC Northern Day at Harewood House. The West Yorkshire based couple only kept the car for one year, it was then sold to the owner of a North Yorkshire based Shire Horse Farm who kept the car for exactly ten years. Owning a MK2 had been one of the 'new' owners life time ambitions since being a young business man in 1968. He had to wait 28 years to own his first Jaguar MKII. The car was thoroughly enjoyed over ten years and covered almost 3000 miles of weekend driving. The owner only parted with the car in 2006 as he visited us, stumbled across a wonderful Morris Bullnose Cowley and agreed a deal. We then sold the car to the most recent owner in Lancashire who has covered a couple of thousand faultless miles. TLG 424D has been a delight to own and has only required service work and minimal maintenance. The Jaguar has returned to us after more than ten years, it now has a genuine 96k miles recorded and is in exactly the same, beautifully presented condition.

It's so nice to have such a comprehensive history of the cars life. The history file includes invoices dating back many years including records from Jaguar Daimler Norman Motors Ltd in London during the 1980's, MOT certificates back to the 1990's, a fabulous log of work and use from previous owners and old logbooks and records from Jersey during the 1970's. TLG 424D not only has an excellent history, it is first class to drive. The engine has only covered 12000 miles since the rebuild and it performs and feels superb with excellent performance and very good oil pressure. The all syncro gearbox is a delight to use, the overdrive comes in and out after a long pause and with power steering, sharp brakes and handling, the car is a delight to drive. The Jaguar has recently gone through our Malton Coachworks workshop and £3000 has been spent on the car. Recent work includes new front brake discs, front and rear pads, handbrake pads, front and rear brake pistons, new subframe mountings, anti-roll bar bushes, new drop links and bushes, front crankshaft oil seal, new overdrive solenoid and steering rack boots. Having not had paintwork for many years, also in early 2017 the Jaguar has been treated to a complete outer shell re-paint and as a result presents superbly with a glass finish and lovely straight panels. Including the mechanical work, in the region of £8, 000 has been spent on the Jaguar in 2017 to ensure the car meets the next owners expectations. Chrome work is smart, as are chrome wire wheels and the webasto sunroof is in excellent order with no evidence of leaking. The underside is structurally excellent and the MKII is ready to use and enjoy. The upholstery is a delight with beautifully aged Red leather seats and door cards, lovely carpets with over mats, a clean headlining and very well presented woodwork. TLG 424D isn't a concours car, but is most certainly a superbly well presented example that feels absolutely right on the road and is superb fun to drive. This is a top quality example that can be driven and owned with confidence with the added value of good quality history and a log history of careful owners who have kept up to the car throughout its whole life with no expense spared.
