1956 Manx Norton frame registered as Triton in 1965 SOLD

Here is my Triton, it is unique and a genuine period built machine. What you are buying here is a real treasure. It was first built up and registered as a Triton in 1965 and is a genuine period built café racer. The DVLA accepts 1956 as the build date of the frame, which means it is tax and MOT exempt There's an NOC dating letter. It has slight patination, but it has been a treasured machine all its life and is in remarkable condition. I am the fourth owner. In 2009 it was refurbished, details below, but it was in fine condition prior to that and the mileage is believed to be genuine. (The buyer will be given photos of the bike taken prior to the refurb and of the stripped frame during re-assembly.) After the refurb, the bike was just taken to the Isle of Man for the TT each year and run round the course on public days. It has done less than 1000 miles since the refurb. The original Manx Norton motorcycle was sold to Switzerland in 1956, where the engine and gearbox were removed. I gather this was common at the time, because the mechanicals were used in motor racing, but Norton refused to sell anything other than complete bikes. The rolling frame returned to the UK and was mated to a very interesting and possibly unique pre-production T120 Bonneville engine of 1958 vintage. The engine appears to be a prototype from the development phase of the T120 and presumably found its way out of the back door of the factory at some point! Because it was in excellent order, it wasn't stripped down during the freshening process, but it is noted that the rev counter drive is different to production models. To the Triumph enthusiast, I think this engine might be of great interest as a pre-production prototype of the iconic Bonneville engine. However, please don't send me any abusive emails - I'm not an expert, nor an historian. A 4 speed Norton gearbox was used in the build. The refreshing process included the following Paxon electronic ignition 12v New coils Reinforced twin lead brake plate New fork stanchions New handlebars clip ons New headlight brackets New rear sets New ignition switch New single seat New 5 gallon alloy tank - so no fuel rot issues. New rear suspension units Stripped to bare metal and Powder coated frame Alloy engine plates New clutch parts Tyres Avon road runners Alloy rims with dull stainless steel spokes. The alloy tank was custom built and cost £650 on it's own! The bike starts really easily and settles into a nice tick-over fairly quickly. It sounds wonderful. The drivers right footrest flips up to allow kickstarting. The sitting position is a bit of a stretch if you are small, because the 5 gallon tank was used in the build. On the bright side, this does allow for a decent distance between tank fills. The stand for the bike has been cleverly bolted onto the alloy engine plates as the original racing machine didn't have a stand. I gather the frame is Reynolds 531 tubing. I am very happy to have you view the bike. It is on SORN and if you want to take it for a run, I'm afraid you will need to leave me with a cash deposit of the full asking price. I have taken a video of starting the bike so you can hear it!     - details above The payment for the bike will need to be by bank transfer or cash please. I'm happy to work with your courier, but would prefer collection in person.
