Lotus Elise GT1 (Type 115) 1997 FIA Race Car For Sale

Chassis-number GT1-1 has been constructed by the English G-Tech company using major components from the Lotus factory’s GT1 project. From our research we believe that this car is built around the spare chassis from the factory race team, and as chassis #1 was the first example of only 8 cars produced by Lotus. The factory Lotus team used chassis 2 and 4 for the 1997 FIA GT Championship with this car as it was intended to be raced in the British GT Championship, and still has the scrutineering sticker from Silverstone in 2000 on the car. However the car never competed in anger in track-racing. The car was constructed around an aluminium extrusion bonded monocoque with an integral roll-cage. The engine was the turbo-charged and intercooled Lotus 918 32-valve V8 with 600 BHP, with Motec Ignition and Instrumentation. A Hewland 6-speed sequential gearbox provides the drive. The car is also fitted with AP Racing fully floating and vented discs and AP Racing callipers. With its carbon fibre bodywork the Elise GT1 put 900 Kg’s on the scale. Most of the development of the GT1 cars was done in co-operation with experienced Le Mans racing-driver Toine Hezemans with his son Mike Hezemans and Jan Lammers doing the testing. Toine Hezemans once entered the car for the 2001 Super Car Rally from Paris to Monaco. After this event the car was mechanically completely re-built, including a fresh engine. Most of this work was done by the race preparation shop of Toine Hezemans in Holland. This particular car was known in reports and books for its yellow-over-black Frank Muller Watch livery. One of these publications was “The complete history of Lotus cars”, a complete production publication by William Taylor. In the Type 115 section,6 out of 9 pictures were of this particular car. In June 2006 the car was sold to a major European Ferrari collector who intended to use this car at a private racing-track near his Florida based premises. On his request the Frank Muller Watch livery was changed into a more familiar Lotus colour-scheme. After arrival in the USA the car was completely detailed by a local specialist but then regretfully remained un-used until today. Of course the car was started and run warm on a regular basis. Now the car has returned to Europe again and has been re-imported into the EEC. It is today still in excellent overall condition! With the car will come various spares, such as 2 extra sets of rims with new tyres, one air-lance for air-jacks, 4 axle-stands, steering rack, battery carrier, quick fill fuel bottle and some carbon fibre body parts. It is an ideal car for the GT 90’s revival series, has previously been invited to Goodwood, and is eligible for many other major historic car events.
