Hi, I’m selling my much loved, but little used 1959 Mk1 Frog Eye Sprite; I bought this car about a year ago as a childhood dream.
I bought it with its body in excellent condition and I thought that the engine was as well! However as with my wife the body was in much better condition then the engine (not very PC I know but as she is ‘encouraging ‘me to sell it……………)
So in the last year she (the car not the wife) has had quite a few pounds spent on her, including the following:-
Peter May cylinder Head; new un-leaded cylinder inserts, re-faced, replacement of all valves, seals & springs & cylinder gasket.
Removal of radiator and engine from vehicle. Remove sump, strip out pistons and rods. block rebored and new flat head High comp pistons fitted. Paint components in correct colour. Re-assemble engine using new parts. Fit new clutch, fuel and oil pump. Fit new differential, Bottom end gasket set, Gasket set – cylinder head, Diff gaskets, 2 no half shaft gasket , Points set, Condenser, Clutch kit, Ring gear, Fuel pump, Starter motor, Oil filter – spin on, Oil pump, Main bearings + . New voltage box , halogen light bulbs, new horn, all radiator hose’s radiator cap, thermostat (& gaskets) water pump, radiator re-furbished, new chrome pancake filters, polished alloy rocker cover (& gaskets) new diff bell housing and spline gaskets and finally, all joints re-greased and finally finally two new SU1 1/8 Carbs.
On top of this work/parts (all receipts have been kept) I have a full history file from when the car was re-imported back to the UK from the US in 1990 incl all import paper work and heritage certificate, original handbook. With bills from Ellis & Son and Archers garage totalling over 15K (it also has a full S/S exhaust, big end BIG sound!)
The car has 11mths MOT and of course is taxed (free)
As mentioned the body work is in excellent condition and she turns heads every time she’s driven, incidentally she will need another 300 miles on the clock before she take be driven properly, as she’s still being run in. Once she is she should fly, as mentioned she has High compression pistons and has a balanced cam and I’m told a sports manifold. Good tonneau cover and hood.
