The Talbot AX65, is a luxury saloon car built by Talbot and Darracq Motor Engineering in London from 1932 - 1935. Engineered by the brilliant Georges Roesch this car was built to be as good as a Rolls-Royce but at a cheaper price bracket. Equipped with leaf sprung suspension, four wheel drum brakes and powered by a highly efficient straight six engine this car was well liked by the motoring press.
The History
Registered in 1935 this 86 year old car has only had 7 keepers in its lifetime with ownership traced from the 60’s to present day. It underwent mechanical refurbishment in 2017 but unfortunately due to bereavement it became available for sale shortly after its completion. The current owner acquired the vehicle in 2018 where it has been cherished and only used on occasion.
The Paperwork
The main documentation is on the works carried out during the 2017 by Talbot specialist, I S Polson. Alongside photos pre body refurb, which work is undocumented. Invoices and hand written job cards from I S Polson are pictured, plus wiring diagram and further handwritten notes. An original instructions book is also included.
The Exterior
This charming vehicle comes in a non factory paint colour, which is best described as a mix between a non metallic blue and a light lavender, in the shade it seems more blue than lavender, in the sun the reverse. Whichever light it is gazed upon though, the car looks fantastic. Some online research tells us that the custom paintwork may have been redone in the 90’s, but there’s nothing present to back this up. Overall the paintwork is in good order with only a few minor blemishes noticed. The chromework is a similar story, with badges and bumpers all in fair condition. The chrome wire wheels are all fitted with fresh rubber and look in to be free from any wear, marks or damage. A really fine looking classic.
The Interior
Inside you are greeted pleasantly by brown leather seats and original wood trim. The seats are in fabulous condition with very little sign of use, original gauges and wood dash are present and all working. Sat in the back you can clearly feel why this luxury saloon wasn't far behind the more expensive competition. Areas to note are that there are some wear marks on the door cards but can be forgiven considering the car has been motoring on for almost nine decades.
The Mechanics
Upon arrival the car was being cleaned ready to be maneuvered to a more favourable location and upon request it started and drove without hesitation or issue. In fact, during the shoot the vehicle was maneuvered multiple times and not once did we find it a challenge. The straight six ideled comfortably, moved and stopped without drama.
The Appeal
This 1930’s luxury saloon is great inside and out, it's nearly approaching it’s 87th birthday but it certainly doesn't look like it. It’s a charming vehicle to look at as well as be in. Comfortable and roomy rear seats would make it a great car for passengers. You can’t help but imagine a bride and groom stepping out of its rear suicide doors!
Special occasion or not, this is a wonderful car ready to be enjoyed.

About Max Bids
The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.
Anti-sniping
Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.
Auto-bidding increments
If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Automatically outbid immediately
When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.
Matching max bids
When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
Pre-authorisation
We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.
What are pre-bids?
A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.
Problem with your bid
Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
