The Background

The Bentley Mark VI was produced from 1946 to 1952.
The Mark VI 4-door standard steel sports saloon was the first post-war luxury car from Bentley and was produced from 1946-1952. It was also the first car from Rolls-Royce with all-steel coachwork and the first complete car assembled and finished at their factory. These very expensive cars were a genuine success.

This first Bentley factory finished car was given the name Bentley Mark VI standard steel sports saloon. This shorter wheelbase chassis and engine was a variant of the Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith of 1946 and, with the same standard steel body, became the cautiously introduced Silver Dawn of 1949.

The History

The majority of this car's restoration happened in the previous owner's possession and it has not been used much since the current owner purchased her a year or so ago.
It's very much a weekend driver and is cared for impeccably, spending most of its time tucked up in a heated, dry, garage.
The owner is looking to reduce his holdings and so unfortunately this classy old lady needs to find a new home.

The Paperwork

The car comes with the normal V5c and supporting documentation and a wealth of receipts for works carried out. Most notably, receipts for the car's comprehensive restoration over the last 15-20 years.

The Interior

The interior was retrimmed sometime in the last 10 years and hasn’t seen much action since then so it is in absolutely superb condition. The tables in the rear of the front seats are stunning and match the wood of the dash and other interior accents. The carpets have been renewed not long ago and it really is a luxurious place to sit and watch the world go by.
It smells like vintage luxury cars and it certainly makes you feel important when riding in it. It's fabulous.
The original Bentley tool kit is present which is a lovely touch.
The only fault inside is the small clock on the passenger side of the dash doesn’t seem to be showing the right time and will need some attention.

The Exterior

The car received a comprehensive restoration over the last 15-20 years and that included a full respray in the two tone colour scheme you see here , which really accents the fine lines of this body shape. The paint is in great condition with only a few minor blemishes present. In all honesty, it doesn’t look to have been out much in the last 10 years and is always kept in a dry heated garage when not in use.
The car sits on its original steel wheels and hub cars which suit it perfectly and the brightwork was re-chromed also as part of the restoration so is in fine fettle bar a few small blemishes.

The Mechanics

Mechanically the car runs well and sounds lovely. The 4.2 Litre engine is incredibly smooth just as a Bentley should be and driving it is quite the event with the gear stick being to the right of the drivers right knee.
The car is of course MOT exempt but had no advisories on the last MOT that was performed. There are also various receipts for things like a new clutch that was fitted circa 2000 miles ago.

The Appeal

If you're in the market for a classic Bentley such as this I’d hazard a guess that you know what you're looking at. A car that is every bit as elegant as it is long. With huge sweeping lines, beautiful two tone paint work, stunning chrome accents and an interior that would put modern Bentleys to shame, what’s not to like?

Its classy, its bold, its unbridled luxury whether you're being driven or you're behind the wheel yourself. Unfortunately, car manufacturers don’t make vehicles with this kind of passion any more, more's the pity. What a beautiful machine.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
