The Background

This is a car that seriously needs no introduction. The mustang is among the most iconic American muscle cars of all time. Being an Evocation of the beautiful GT350, this car showcases its performance like no other.
Ford began the production of the mustang back in 1964, long to be associated with power and performance throughout its lifetime. It really was the perfect, stylish all-rounder that people lusted after.

Regardless of what your vehicle requirements could have been at the time, a Mustang always appealed to the larger crowd thanks to the stunning good looks, the outstanding performance, as well as the overall usability of the car. Truly a daily driver that you could cruise in on the weekends to unwind.

The History

This is a California car, manufactured in San Jose and lived the vast majority of its life there. Thanks to the dry weather and lack of any salt/grit used on the roads throughout the year, the shell is in very good condition given its age as pictured. Previously owned by a man named Carlos Najera who was kind enough to leave a build sheet for the owner after him, stating that he was born and raised in California and took incredible pride in what he had built here.
Upon receiving the donor vehicle, Carlos was informed that the car needed quite a lot of work, in his words in the build sheet he states “I was aware that it needed a major overhaul”. He goes on to describe the parts he fixed, emphasising that nothing on the car was left untouched while it was in his possession. Throughout the sheet he explains parts that were renewed, overhauled, serviced and upgraded.
Carlos took pride in his work and the paperwork he wrote shows that it had a very loved life in California. And to this day, with its current owner, that still rings true as the car sits in dry storage awaiting a new lease of life with a new owner.

The Paperwork

As with almost all imported cars, paperwork is like a diamond in the rough. Not much made it overseas with this car apart from the build sheet written by the previous owner Carlos Najera. As stated above, Carlos walks you through piece by piece of the car that was restored by himself in California.
Since the vehicles import to the UK in 2018, the vehicle hasn’t been used, so no paperwork apart from the V5 registration from the DVLA is present.

The Interior

High end, Pony Deluxe interior from CJ Pony, with a 15” Corso wooden steering wheel and Pony horn button welcoming you to this piece of classical luxury.

Back in California, everything was removed from the original donor car to start from scratch so that the vehicle was up to the owners standards and requirements. New sound deadening was installed in the floor and in the roof, along with a new Scott Drake headliner and windlace. New ACC black carpet and Pony floor mats were installed along with brand new TMI Pony front and rear seat foam, new TMI Pony upholstery, Drake chrome seat trim and seat belts, and the seat frames were painted black to help prevent rust in the future.

The interior of this car is a very pretty place to be, thanks to the deluxe Pony interior that has been put into the car, which is one of the most expensive options to go for when rebuilding a car like this. This interior is completely unused and brand new” "
New pioneer speakers along with a pioneer detachable head unit were installed to the car and the window components such as scissors were replaced to ensure the proper functionality of them. The heater core was replaced and the instrument panel was updated with a white face gauge, new lens and bezel. As you can tell, during its life in California there was very little expense spared on this car and the parts list that’s shown really is a testament to that.
Almost all of these parts are now a few years old, however the interior of this car is still a very pretty place to be especially thanks to the deluxe Pony interior that has been put into the car, which is one of the most expensive options to go for when rebuilding a car like this.

The Exterior

The first thing you notice about this car is that dazzling GT350 front end which so many enthusiasts know so well. The GT350 theme flows throughout the bodywork of the car, including the GT350 metal hood scoop, a GT350 Type-R front valance, side scoops, along with finishing touches such as billet aluminium gas cap, satin tail lights, door handles and side mirrors and upper and lower billet grills for the car.

Carlos emphasises in his build sheet that making these GT350 parts fit the way they do took countless man hours, utilising his years of experience working with classic metal parts. All gaskets and rubber weather seals were replaced at the time all this work was undertaken.
The exterior doesn’t come without its flaws, however. There are some blemishes on the paint apparent and the wheels are showing some signs of minor corrosion on the diamond cut pieces. The paint job overall is not what we would call show-worthy, however it does still produce high levels of gloss.

The Mechanics

At the heart of this mustang lives a 5.0L 302 V8 with a 4 barrel Edelbrock carburetor that, at the time of the engine install, had a full tune up and fresh engine paint.

To this day, the engine still looks the part. New ancillaries were added such as a new water pump pulley and crank shaft pulley to align with the alternator placement and the power steering pump, new rubber belts were used along with Powered By Ford aluminium valve covers and a matching Mustang air cleaner. Motorcraft spark plugs, plug leads, ignition coil and Mallory distributor. The starter, alternator fuel pump, fuel pump to carb line, power steering pump and starter solenoid were all replaced at this point in time too.
The suspension also got a complete overhaul while it was living in California, upper and lower control arms were swapped out for heavy duty ones along with new ball joints and spring perches, new KYB sport shocks were installed. New tie rods, centre links, sleeves and high performance spindles were included. The brakes were upgraded to 4-piston Wilwood high performance calipers with Wilwood discs and pads, along with some very welcome stainless braided brake lines.

An upgrade like this is a huge help especially with that 302 V8 propelling the car along. A high performance three row radiator was installed along with new hoses, battery isolation switch, new battery tray and cables, along with a beautiful finishing touch which was the Monte Carlo bar and export brace with chrome shock tower caps, helping reduce body roll in the corners. It is also worth noting that the headlight harnesses have been replaced along with the alternator harness and the engine gauge feed harness.
The wheels on the car are Coys C67, with 17x7 in the front and 17x8 in the rear and wrapped in brand new Pirelli 225/45/17 and 235/45/17 respectively.

The Appeal

We all know that GT350 Mustangs have become serious collectors pieces and puts the price of them well out of reach of the vast majority of people these days.

A beautifully extensive evocation build such as this is one that welcomes everyone to join in on the feeling of owning such a beautiful piece of automotive jewelry. This isn’t an opportunity that comes up often!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
