The Background

An iconic of British motoring the MGB entered production in 1962 and ran until the 1980s in its original form, the name was revived in 1992 for three years but it wouldn’t live up to the original MGB. The MGB was originally designed as a 2-seater, soft-top, four-cylinder sports car but the hard top option was introduced in 1965. A proper little sports car the MGB would end up selling 520,000 units and is now one of the most recognisable classic British sports cars.

The history of this car is there somewhere it has been serviced when needed but with being of the age that it is you can imagine that there have been many happy trips with this car with some top-down easy driving.

The Paperwork

There is paperwork that comes with the car including things like invoices for all the works completed. Some of these works include a total brake overhaul front and back, New clutch master and slave cylinders, new radiator, new stainless steel exhaust system and every rubber suspension bush has been replaced for nylon ones. The V5 is also present for this car. This amount of paperwork and list of new parts show how much time and effort has been put into this little British icon which means it will be an excellent little sports car.

The Interior

The interior of the MGB is in remarkable condition, with no rips on the classic black with red piping seats and no cracks in the dash. The minimalistic dashboard is populated with a few toggle switches and plastic dials that all work in the intended fashion, the MG badging is displayed proudly in the middle of the dash just so you don’t forget what an iconic car you’re driving.

With this being the roadster variant of the MGB family it means you are able to explore the world with the top down taking in marvellous scenery whilst being able to listen to the glorious BMC B series 1.8l 4 pot soundtrack.

The Exterior

The exterior of this MGB appears to be in excellent condition for its age there may be a mark here and there, but this may be expected from a 50 year old car. The green paintwork still sparkles as it would’ve done when it left the factory in 1971 and with the addition of the black vinyl soft top it adds a whole other dimension to the car. As you can see from the photos the top does go up and down and it seats nicely in the little space behind the seats. The top itself is in good condition.

This MGB sits on the iconic alloys you see so many of these cars on, but these ones are in good condition with only a few minor scuffs. You will also be able to see the addition of the two spotlights on the front which just set the whole car off.

The Mechanics

If you pop your head under the bonnet you will be greeted with the well-known BMC B-series engine which was in so many British cars at the period. Its 1.8l 4 cylinder would produce around 100 hp which is ample for a car of this weight. This version is fitted with twin carburettors to aid the production of more power. There is also a battery isolator switch that has been fitted recently.

From factory this car only came with a 4-speed gearbox, but the addition of the overdrive function allows you to cruise are higher speeds with the added benefit of slightly better fuel economy. All in all, this specific MGB is in good mechanical condition.

As a testament to the mechanical condition of this car it went through an MOT in June of this year and it went through with NO advisories which is excellent for a 50 year old car.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
