The Background

The Fiat 500 L is a classic supermini that was made between 1957 and 1975. It was almost seen as a fashion accessory in the late 50s and 60s due to its incredibly pretty good looks, small nimble handling and was perfect for nipping around town.
The model we have here is the 500 L which was made between 1967 and 71 with the last of the model being sold in 72. The L stood for Lusso which is the higher spec of the 500 range offering upgrades such as vinyl seats, extra bumpers, a new front badge and new instrument binnacle.
The door cards were upholstered to match the interior, the car ran radial tyres instead of ply and the floor was carpet covered instead of rubber mats. All of these small tweaks led to the 500 L being that little bit more refined compared to a standard 500 F.

The History

The car is an original RHD and has been a few colours throughout its life. The current owner decided to put it back to the original Antique Ivory whilst also updating the engine and giving the whole car a comprehensive restoration.
Now that she is complete, it's time for her to go to a good home.

The Paperwork

The V5 is present as is a stack of MOTs. The car has a lot of receipts from all of the recent restoration work and the current owner has been meticulous in keeping all of the paperwork to support the work that has been done to show just how much has gone into its refresh. The car is currently MOT’d until March 22 even though technically it is exempt based on its age.

The Interior

The interior is a lovely mix of original dials, steering wheel and pedals and freshly trimmed seats. They really are in fantastic condition. As part of the respray in 2020 the bare shell was painted inside and out so it's as fresh under the carpet as it is on the outside of the vehicle.
Everything works including the rag top roof.

The Exterior

Due to the full respray the paint is in very good condition. The car received new panels where needed as part of the restoration. Various new external trims and badges have been purchased so they look as fresh as the paint and the wheels are the original steels with chrome hubcaps which really finish off the original look of the vehicle.

The Mechanics

The car drives well and sounds lovely, it has had a 600cc engine from a Fiat 126 added (a common upgrade) to give it a tad more oomph and before that engine went in it was rebuilt so its classed as refurbished. At the same time the gearbox which came with that engine was fitted meaning the car benefits from a full 4-speed synchromesh gears rather than the original 'crash' box. For added peace of mind, one of the previous owners fitted disc brakes to front wheels to help safety on modern roads.

The Appeal

The original Fiat 500 was Fiats answer to the Austin Mini. Small (even smaller than a Mini) lightweight and incredibly pretty this small Italian car won the hearts of the nation and beyond.

Here in RHD, an original RHD from factory I might add, it’s a lovely thing to behold. The current owner has put a lot of time , money and love into the restoration which has been comprehensive leaving you with a very clean Italian classic that will turn heads wherever it goes.

Ok , sure, the peppy 600cc engine might not break the sound barrier but it's not about speed in one of these, in fact you’ll probably not be able to go fast anyway due to everyone getting in your way to get a good look at it.

If small superminis are your thing and you like a car with a bit of character, there’s not many small classics that will put a smile on your face like this one.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
