The Background

The Lada 2101 AKA VAZ 2101 was built under licence from FIAT based on their 124 model. The delicate Italian was toughened up for Soviet winters with beefier taller suspension fitted to handle harsh road conditions. An aluminium rear brake drum assembly and also a different engine entirely to the FIAT version, this time supplied by NAMI.
Due to the harsh environments the now LADA/VAZ would be operating in, the shell also had to be made using thicker steel which did not crack during prolonged use on poor roads and extreme temperatures.
The drive train was kept simple with a 4 cylinder engine and simple RWD set up making this car one tough cookie and cementing its reputation for a hardy , simple to maintain and fix workhorse of Siberia.
It was in production from 1970 to 1982 and remained almost unaltered in that time.

The History

The current owner drove the car from Kiev to Leicester across 7 countries over 5 days covering 2000 miles and it did not miss a beat.
It is a clean original survivor car and due to its age does not require MOT or TAX. The Nova has been sent to HMRC to register the car in the UK so the car will come with a UK V5.
Since its arrival in the UK the car has had a few new items fitted which are listed in the mechanical section.

The Paperwork

Present are the necessary registration documents for the car and also the receipts for the most recent new parts.

The Interior

The interior is largely original apart from a repair to the middle of the driver's seat as pictured. Everything inside works and is keeping with such an original example.

The Exterior

The exterior is in clean original condition, the paint and the chrome work are in good order. The wheels are steel with chrome hub caps and all of the tyres are legal.

The Mechanics

Mechanically the car is in great working order with the 1.2 Petrol engine working well. The car has recently had the following items, new clutch and clutch cylinder. It has also recently had new tyres, new brakes including handbrake cable and assembly and a new starter motor. A new higher output alternator has also been fitted and all of the bushes under the car have been replaced.
These new fresh items paired with the car's original state and low mileage mean she is a joy to drive.

The Appeal

60s Italian styling of the FIAT 124 (which won European car of the year I might add), remade in heavy gauge steel bodywork capable of surviving a Siberian winter, RWD and simple mechanics. The recipe for this now classic car is simple, honest and hard wearing.

Simply due to age and the popularity of these vehicles in their hay day there can’t be too many left in genuine original condition with such low mileage especially here in the UK.

If you're after a classic that’s a little bit different and will survive a nuclear war, this is it !

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
