The Volkswagen Type 2 Transporter is as iconic as they come, steeped in history and always an addition to a collectors fleet, or an ideal mobile home for weekend breaks; the camper has always been a big part of classic car history.
The car's production started in 1949 and went on until 2013 where the last of the VW campers were produced in Brazil, South America. The vehicle has had many variations over the years, but it is the T1 to T3 models that can be seen as directly related to the Beetle.
The Westfalia version was a home from home and with its “Westy” roof and interior had the addition of the “pop up” top.
The current owner has enjoyed this VW T2 for five years, and is reluctantly selling it due to a new member in the family. The car is to the owners knowledge original, the car did have a minor respray but otherwise has not been touched. The owner wanted to keep it standard during his ownership to maintain its authenticity and not to remove the look from its classic status.
The owner has some receipts and MOT’s from 2011-2017 which are shown in the gallery. The V5 shows five previous keepers.
The cabin up front is in good order, with the exception of the driver's seat cushion which has a large rip in it, showing the original straw filling. Switch gears are all functional as are the electrics. The car has a Sharp radio cassette fitted, dials are clear and the window glass is free of chips and scratches. The photographs show that the for cards on both fronts are loose and rust is evident around the door openings.
Headlining is in good order along with the fitted kitchenette areas, all in working order including the cupboards and fold out table. The fridge, 2 burner stove with 2 gas bottles are also said to be in full working order.
The original gold VW golf seating is in fair condition, the roof is a “just kampers' ' one and fits well, and said to be waterproof and airtight. All matting and flooring is hard wearing and in good condition.
The VW is in need of a restoration as there are rust spots and bubbling around all outside areas, these are noted in the photographs. Wheel arches are showing rust underneath, wheel hubs are in reasonable condition and tyres have good tread throughout.
Front and rear bumpers are painted white and in reasonable condition for the vehicle's age, rust is around the hinges at the back of the vehicle where the engine resides.
The pop up roof shows no signs of wear with no rips in it at all, the operation to extend it is smooth and gives this camper a flexible indoor space.
The VW T2 runs well and according to the seller in very good order, it has been maintained by a local garage and some receipts are present. The car is exempt from MOT due to its classic status, it did have one in 2016 when the current owner purchased it though.
Air-cooled VW’s are part of the classic car scene and these T2 campers are highly sought after, this particular one would be a great project for the next owner and being right hand drive will also make it even more desirable.
This 1974 T2 is a good runner and will produce many happy memories for the next owner, characterful and one of the most adaptable vehicles on four wheel you can buy for traveling the UK or Europe in.

About Max Bids
The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.
C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 5-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.
If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.
£0 to £10,000
£10,000 to £50,000
Automatically outbid immediately
When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours. You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.
Matching max bids
When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
