∙Recent big service ∙Comprehensive respray ∙Beautiful Italian classic ∙Rare Right-Hand drive example ∙Uprated with the 2000 engine
The Alfa Romeo GT Junior was, in any guise, an important car. It was small, light, relatively powerful and outstanding to drive. It was the perfect car for 1960s Alfa Romeo, which needed something to tempt young, cash rich buyers. And as well we all know, the GT was a huge success.
The Alfa Romeo GT 1600 Junior was introduced in 1972, to plug the gap between the GT 1300 Junior and the larger-engined 2000 GTV. In the UK right-hand-drive market the GT 1300 Junior was dropped, but in many other markers the two models were available as a range.
The 2000 series were replacements for the 1750cc and as such the engine was increased to a capacity of 1962cc and put out about 130bhp which was more than enough to give this pretty little car decent grunt, hence making the 1600 to 2000 engine upgrade a common feature today.
This particular car has lived its entire life in South Africa and has recently been imported to the UK. It benefits from a comprehensive restoration to the body which is still in fine condition and has had an engine upgrade from the 1600cc Junior motor to the 1962cc engine normally found in the GTV 2000 thus making it a 2000 GT in all respects apart from not having a limited slip differential.
All of the trim and badging has also been replaced to make this a 2000 GT.
The car comes complete with the necessary registration documents, supporting paperwork, UK V5 and fresh MOT. It also comes with history from the previous owners with numerous documents detailing the restoration work and new parts added over the years. There are also some pictures present which show the restoration work undertaken.
The interior is stunning in this Alfa, its cream leather over wooden steering wheel and chrome accents is such a nice sports car combination.
It really is in excellent condition inside and does not appear to have been used much at all, a lovely place to be.
The exterior of this car has been repainted. It underwent a comprehensive restoration and pictures are included to show the work that was completed.
As a result the paint is excellent with only a few minor stone chips and blemishes. The Chromework is also in excellent condition and the alloy wheels and tyres are practically brand new.
Some of the items that were replaced or renewed are, new front grill, new sump guard, new door handles, new wing mirror and many small fixings, washers and seals.
Mechanically the car sounds great as it has a stainless exhaust system and that raspy classic Alfa noise is just beautiful.
Under the bonnet the car has the 1962cc engine as already mentioned and aesthetically it looks right at home. Over the years it has been rebuilt and this is documented in fine detail within the photographed documents.
Some of the main items include, brake master cylinder and hoses replaced, new suspension bushes , replacement anti roll bar bushes, front and rear shocks, brake lines, new front springs, new gearbox synchro and many other perishables such as oil changes. In short the car has seen a lot of replacement parts from the likes of Alfa Classics and Alfaholics to ensure it is in tip top condition.
The Alfa GT is one of the prettiest classic Alfas and is very sought after. If you're going to invest in one (and it is an investment) then a very low mileage solid example with most of the restoration work completed is the one you want.
Add to that, the fact that it’s the 2000 and the throatiest engine option this car becomes a real treat.
With looks and style to die for and the oomph under your right foot to back it up, it’s a hard one to pass up.
