Highlights

• Rally themed paintwork & decals
• Low mileage
• Recent mechanical work carried out and fresh MOT

THE BACKGROUND

The 127 was produced by Italian car manufacturer Fiat from 1971 to 1983. It was introduced in 1971 as the replacement for the Fiat 850. This was Fiat's first supermini-sized hatchback. The 127 featured a state-of-the-art transverse-engine/front-wheel-drive layout, with the transmission mounted on the end
of the engine.

The car was one of the first of the modern superminis, and won praise for its use of space (80 percent of the floor space was available for passengers and luggage) as well as its road-holding. The 127 was also one of the more popular imported cars on the UK market, peaking at more than 20,000
sales in 1978.

The series 2 was introduced in 1977 featured a restyled front and rear and larger rear side windows without the curved beltline of the original. Also revised was the interior with a new dashboard, identical to the original but plainer in appearance and without the wood embellishment.

THE HISTORY

Little is known about its life but from the information provided by the current owner the car was imported in December 2020 and has been UK registered.

According to the seller the vehicle was used for historic rallying in France but in their own words there’s no paperwork to confirm this. It’s worth noting no checks have been made to certify the rally equipment is certified, the future owner will need to ensure they research and carry out the necessary inspections.

THE PAPERWORK

No paperwork was available on the day of the shoot and there is nothing from its life prior to arriving in the UK. However all work that has been carried since 2020 will be provided.

THE EXTERIOR

First, it has to be said that this car looks awesome, from bonnet to boot this tiny car emits fun. The rally design takes inspiration from Abarth and while the 127 Abarth never technically existed this car looks the business.

The paint is in fine order, white body with red side stripes looks fantastic, the enormous amount of stickers just add to the fun factor, especially the rooftop scorpion, nice and visible thanks to the car being lowered and most likely not exceeding 4ft in height!

The alloy wheels are just as great, grey rally style with abarth centre caps, gorgeous and suit the car incredibly. Bumper to bumper there’s not much wrong to point out, no signs of anything worrying or unwanted.

THE INTERIOR

Inside the charm continues, there has been a decent amount of stripping back to assist with the rally set up, the most noticeable change is the removal of the rear seats which have been replaced by a spare wheel and roll cage.

Up front, black leather seats are present, the drivers seat does have a rip but nothing that can't be resolved easily. Abarth racing steering wheel (on the left!) sits proudly in front of the modified dash. Aftermarket rev counter sits above aftermarket switches, racing and rallying was no doubt the cars only purpose for sometime.

54,368 miles are present on the typical 80’s style dash, black, plastic, plain but again it works with the car so well.

THE MECHANICS

The car started and revved loudly, the 903cc engine sounds great, even though it might not have a huge amount of go. The seller has kindly listed some of the work carried out since he acquired the vehicle -

Since arrival the car has had a thorough going over and the following parts replaced. The suspension has been lowered by 40mm on the back by lowering blocks and the front has had proper lowering springs with new mountings. The front brakes have new calipers along with EBC green stuff pads with grooved and drilled brake discs. The front brake hoses have been replaced with braided hoses. It has a new brake load sensing valve and new brake pipes as
required.

The 4 speed gearbox has had new driveshaft gaiters and oil seals. The engine appears to be standard and has recently been serviced with a new sump gasket so it has no oil leaks. For the MOT it had new lower suspension arms with new bushes and ball joints. The exhaust system is also a new replacement. The headlights are adapted to UK traffic and the car is all ready to drive away and enjoy.

THE APPEAL

There is so much to love about this little Fiat, the plain 80’s supermini sized vehicle has been transformed into a eyebrow raising, smirk initiating rally replica.

The great paintwork is a real selling point and will definitely help keep this middle aged pocket rocket going and going.

It will need to correct checks and research if it were to ever rally again but if you would prefer to leave the helmet and mic at home the car is ready to enjoy straight away as a show car or for those Sunday evening cruises.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
