∙Low owners ∙Low mileage ∙Very rare model ∙Incredibly luxurious
Starting life as a Mulliner Park Ward coach-built version of the two door Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, the Corniche was a model that was produced under the Rolls Royce name before Bentley also adopted it. In Bentley form it was introduced in 1971 and sported the proven 6750cc V8 from the Rolls Royce which gave it decent power figures and almost sports car rivalling 0-60 stats. Alhough, driving at great speed is not what this vehicle is meant for. In fact quite the opposite. Why would you want to go so fast that no one could see just how beautiful this statement of automotive art really is, and more importantly see you in it?
At the time considered luxurious beyond belief, the Bentley badged Corniche was made in incredibly small numbers with reportedly only 140 examples being produced, of which 63 were coupe and 77 were convertible.
These beautiful exclusive cars were hand built in the best traditions of British coachbuilding, using only materials of the finest quality including Wilton carpeting, Connolly hide and burr walnut veneers - such painstaking attention to detail resulting in a price some 50% higher than that of the standard Silver Shadow they were based on. But don’t for one minute think that the price tag deterred potential owners, they were very sought after and continue to be to this day.
This incredible vehicle has been in the current owner's possession for the past 22 years, having purchased the car in June 1999 from P&A Woods Rolls-Royce and Bentley Official Heritage Dealers, Great Dunmow, Essex.
Since new, the vehicle has covered just under 37,000 miles and being nearly 40 years old this is considered very low mileage.
The car has a comprehensive service history and any major works have been carried out by Bentley Specialists, most recently in 2019 when the car had a new convertible hood and a number of small mechanical items rectified to ensure it remained in tip top condition.
The owners are clearly very fond of this stunning automobile but a move of house has resulted in a loss of storage space and so the decision has been made to let someone else enjoy her.
The vehicle comes with a comprehensive set of paperwork and regular service history irrespective of mileage covered. As mentioned, any large works have been carried out by the necessary Bentley specialists.
The interior is incredibly luxurious, Coachbuilt by Mulliner Park Ward to safely carry its occupants in unrivalled comfort and class. Think member of the Royal Family or Lord and Lady and you get the idea. The huge leather seats are in great condition and the blue upholstery gives a beautiful and classy contrast to the wood covered dash and silver paint work. It’s a really nice colour combination and it is great condition with no visible wear or rips, though this is to be expected with such a low mileage example.
In the luggage compartment, the carpet shows some sign of wear and upon removal of the carpet some corrosion is visible in the right corner (driver's side) of the compartment which is as a result of a leak in the roof. The roof has now been replaced, I have detailed this further in the exterior section below.
The interior is a fantastic place to sit and watch the world waft by as you cruise along in this large luxury automobile. However, there are a few small things to note which the seller tells us they intend to rectify before sale.
Reportedly, the cruise control has never worked, the glove box lid can sometimes stick, the remote petrol cap opening switch doesn’t seem to work currently, (can still be opened manually though) and the front electric seats whilst working move very slowly indeed.
The bodywork is in fantastic condition for a car of this age and once again reaffirms the love and care that has been afforded to the vehicle from each of its 3 owners. There is the odd small stone chip and two areas of note, one on the driver’s door edge and one on the spoiler. Other than these small blemishes, as you can see from the pictures, the car is very clean and the chrome work is in great condition.
The roof material was replaced at great expense in 2019 by MadMan Limited of Colchester, Essex (madmantrim.com). Three photos of the work are attached.
The car still sits on it original steel wheels and Bentley hubcaps.
Any serious mechanical work has been undertaken by Harvey Wash, Rolls Royce and Bentley specialists, Kelvedon, Essex with invoices to prove. The beautifully smooth 6750cc Rolls Royce engine still retains its wonderful character. This vehicle isn’t light by any stretch of the imagination, but you can still open the taps on that Rolls Royce power house should the moment take you - it may even surprise you.
The owners inform us that no specific restoration work has been undertaken on the engine, nor has it required any. Replacement and upkeep of the essentials has been undertaken where necessary and no expense has been spared in keeping it in tip top original condition. A new battery was also added in Jan 2020.
In this section we tend to write a paragraph or two pertaining to why you should be interested in this vehicle and consider bidding for those keys. The Bentley I present to you here today isn’t merely a vehicle, it’s a statement. It's everything that is good about the seemingly almost entirely forgotten British coachbuilding industry. When it was new, a vehicle only the most wealthy could afford, and the rest of us would at best get to see drive past and admire at a distance.
Despite the car's nearly 40 years of service it still commands ultimate respect and oozes class and wealth. I can assure you that it will turn heads everywhere you drive it. It's beautiful, stunning, rare and luxurious. Sure, you can go faster for less but as a statement of pure grace on arrival to any occasion thrown at it, this would be very hard to beat.

About Max Bids
C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 10-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.
If your bid is below the reserve price you'll bid that amount if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a bid above the reserve we will only go up to the reserve price.
Once the reserve has been met C&C will make sure you are the highest bidder using the bidding increments stated below, keeping you in the lead up until your maximum bid.
£0 to £10,000
£10,000 to £50,000
Automatically outbid immediately
When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.
Matching max bids
When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
